We fought a war to end slavery, won 2 World Wars, including discovering atomic energy along the way, and went to the moon - all without "Universal Health Care".

Communism destroys the human spirit and drive to succeed. It makes us all equally "losers". I remain against it.

Didn't Home Depot or Lowes announce they were doing this late last year?

Home Depot, Trader Joe's and Forever 21 are some other large retailers that have recently done this. In 2011 WalMart ended coverage for their employees working 24 hours or less, then in mid 2013 they announced they would be moving 35,000 part-time folks to full-time status so they could get the health benefit.

What we would have is nation-wide VA-quality care.

Right, so we can all be in the same shitty and inefficient system.

My parents and inlaws love medicare. They say its easy, and so much cheaper than the health insurance they had before.

quote:

The only way you can "opt out" of the ACA is if your employer is providing coverage that meets the ACA's standards or is better or you pay a fine*.

*The fine (currently) is 1% of your income or $95/year, whichever is greater. What this means is that unless you make $9,500 per year or less, you will be paying more than $95/year. When the IRS starts collecting this (Spring 2015), if someone's income was higher than projected, that person will have to pay the excess subsidies they received. And which economic levels will get the most subsidies? The poor.

What this means in a broader scope is that, just like other government programs people will be penalized for trying to make more money.

There's no upside here.

I was talking about who gets target's healthcare. Its not the younger workers who are buying it, its the people who need it. I do agree there is no upside here, but this probably doesn't impact the young workers at target, it probably affects the older ones. I dont know about your target, but mine has a lot of 50+ employees. These are the ones that are losing coverage.

It's not going to be a Medicare-style system, it's going to much more closely resemble a VA-style system. Backlogs, insane red tape, underfunding and very limited medical personnel (as opposed to the private sector).

The Affordable Care Act - Enjoy the suck

You want nationalized healthcare after we have seen the way the President and Feds have handled obama care? His signature idea...

You must be stupid.

Yes, and medicare is also unsustainable and on a small scale.

Home Depot

Started part time with them in 05 when I decided to start my own business. They had United Healthcare for part timers at the time and one of the reasons I chose them as my part time. Fortunately, my business is self sustaining now and I pay my own insurance through it now (increased with lesser benefits thanks to Obamacare). HD changed their policy for PT'ers a couple yrs ago, basically covering up to like 25K in medical expenses, then you're on your own. I have no idea what it is now, but imagine it's the same or worse. I do know they dropped all PT'ers to under 29 hrs a week and have been hiring less FT employees and more PT employees though. So now, they pay less and will be paying less benefits. Working out great, thanks Obama.

That's the whole point of this exercise.

Govt exacerbates a problem to the point where they are the only solution to protect the proletariat from the evil private employers. This fits hand in glove with the class warfare shite.

Then it gives morons an excuse to say "We NEED universal health care period".

What can't figure out is how the unwashed lefties of the 60's who were oh so antiestablishment have decided that the govt should hold the power to do damn near anything it wants. guess the "establishment" isn't so bad when you are in it, huh?

What's sad, is the amount of stupidity in America. Dem's play the class warfare card, get them buying into it. Then they pass laws, that end up creating a larger divide in classes, all while remaining becoming millionaires while in office. Dem's have more millionaires and have the richest people in office, by far.

eta- 7 of the 10 richest members of Congress are Dem's.

If they're working part time at Target, they're gonna be eligible for some pretty big subsidies.
Medicaid is what they will be signing up for.

$25,000 medical coverage won't pay for squat. One broken leg on a trampoline cost a mother $40,000 for the initial treatment. Then there were follow up doctor visits and rehab.

One medical condition, and that 25k is gone. What a shitty "benefit".
