Sponoff of HTM's data - Poverty has one, ONE primary driver

Look at the link he provided.
For all the rhetoric about jobs, policy, etc etc, if the ONLY thing that changed in the data was the single parent rate, the numbers would dramatically improve.
That's all it would take. A fricking behavior change.
Sure. Getting better educated would help too. But parenthood is the one people have most in their control.
This is why i laugh when people tell me about the household income rate today versus 40 years ago.
It's a completely invalid comparison because the word household remains the same but what it describes does not.

1. Get a High School degree
2. Have a full time job
3. Wait until you're at least 21 and married before having kids
2% of people who meet those three requirements are in poverty. 75% of people who meet those three requirements are in the middle class (earning 55,000 or more a year)

Side note.
Is anyone else tired of the fact that the government willfully obfuscates numbers that might yield non PC results?
This data is a great example. It is obvious that they have the underlying data to let us know some things they clearly would prefer we don't know.
Little things like hiding the single parent rate in the "single parent or singles" category.

Sexual probity was the result of societal evolution.
We are devolving and degenerating, not progressing.

In theory, sure.
But do you believe that someone's status as a single parent is wholly divorced from things like education, income, etc?
Because if not...then it's a bit more complex than you're admitting.

Kind of like quality of health care is a bit more complex than looking at life span? Or is it ok for you To be disingenuous?

Yes and no. It's useful to look at when you're removing the argument about a particular place being the 'best', when it clearly can't keep its citizens alive as long as other comparable countries.

Not if you're denied adequate sex education and the war on drugs has ripped your family apart. Or if you're denied healthcare (particularly mental health care).
But sure, removing all of that and more..good job?

quote:also you can't bring in income because that's my point. One person with a child making 28k a year is a poor household. But two people with a child each making 28k per year aren't doing too bad.

Is sex ed no longer taught? I got it in seventh grade, in a catholic school.

Would love to know what percentage of single parents that moron thinks are a result of the parents being unaware of how babies are made or how to prevent them from being made
Posted on 4/2/17 at 3:14 pm to BamaAtl
so when it confirms your bias...that's the argument you go with. Some high level stuff there.

War on drugs rips no families apart. Making stupid choices does. Goes back to that personal responsibility you're so opposed to.
No one is denied health care. Health insurance isn't heath care.
You should know all this without being told, but you've repeatedly demonstrated you're the most ignorant person on this board. Which takes some doing.

And he also misses the point of the thread. The point is bad policy good policy whatever policy. There are things completely within one's control that dramatically reduce your odds of being in poverty. If you choose just two or three of the easiest things to keep in your control you reduce your odds of poverty to practically nil
