Yeah - good sign they saw a movie or heard a story and it was built from there.
As far as the "contractor rescue" mission - I couldn't find a record of it.
Out of our 148 KIA, 35 were friendly fire, and 28 were a single incident in Dharhan - those 2 categories account for 42% of combat deaths.
Of the remaining 85 U.S. KIAs, 11 were killed by exploding coalition munitions (for whatever reason, not technically friendly fire - I'm guessing mines) - so the "contractor rescue" KIAs would have had to come out of the remaining 74.

I feel that way brother. Turn 51 next month. Thirty years as a Soldier (seven as an enlisted infantryman) put some hard miles on me. And the 73 jumps didn't help.

All I know is that we woulda kicked some Russian arse in the 80's! President Reagan absolutely loved us.

I'm at 0 and that's plenty.
Wolf did 73 (and you couldn't get 2 more, brah?) - and the ground don't give - what do you think does?
(Hint: Wolf is 51 but his spine is about 75.)

I realize he probably wasn't in a jump billet the whole time, but 73 doesn't seem like a lot for a 30 year career.

You are way, way too cool aren't you?
We need more people like you who have discovered the elite's secret meeting places and know all of their dark plans. You aren't paranoid and stupid.
They ARE coming to get you.
They are coming to take you away, haha.
To the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time.
And you will be happy to see those nice young men in their black jack boots
When they come to take you away, haha.
You laughed when I warned you about the elite.
I know you laughed, I heard you laugh, you laughed, you laughed, you laughed.
Now they are coming to take me away, haha.*
apologies to Napoleon XIV

5 at jump school, then 2 1/4 jumps per year - that's definitely above average. I've known guys with 70+ jumps in their early 30s, but that's typically a jumpmaster billet.
There's a whole range - but 73 is a lot.

A lot of truth to that. Was nearly 5'11" when I was eighteen. Rounding up to 5'10" now for the APFT.

Decent amount.
Officers (in general) do not remain in airborne assignments consecutively. They have a "history" of airborne assignments (back and forth between airborne and non airborne positions). I only served five years on status so I got a good number in.
Most important part is I went to jumpmaster school (as an LTC) and was able to earn my master parachutist badge the following year. My proudest accomplishment as a Soldier.
Last jump was on Sicily dropzone from a UH 60 (it was a company change of command ceremony). Must admit, I miss it a lot.

That's badass and all, but why the frick does a Lt. Col. need to be a jumpmaster?
Seems like a waste of money and a valuable school seat for someone who really use the skills.
ETA: Not trying to be a dick, just pointing out that the military does waste a lot of money.

Actually a very fair question. You cannot earn an advanced rating (senior or master parachutist) unless you are jumpmaster qualified. Bottom line, to lead paratroopers you have to be jumpmaster qualified and set the standard. My first airborne assignment was as a battalion S3 (CPT) and I never got a chance to go to jumpmaster school (Bosnia got in the way of that). After a year in my next airborne assignment (LTC - Deputy Surgeon, Operations) I finally got a chance to go.
Two funny stories (and I went to the 82nd Advanced Airborne School course - not USASOC)...
Incprocessing to the course, we are all waiting in line as a black hat is checking our jump logs to ensure we are eligible for entry. She takes my jump log from me, reads it, and turns to me and asks in a surprised, LOUD voice "Dang sir, you jumped the T-10 BRAVO?" Thanks jumpmaster.
Standing in formation with my fellow students, I am in the front right, number three in formation (class leader, class NCO, then me as the most senior in rank). As we get to know each other the look in the eyes of my fellow students is the same "Dang sir, how many times did you fail this course?"
ATW!

Awesome. Please drop me a line if you get in. Would gladly drive from Fort Gordon to Fort Benning to see you graduate (no more blood wings unfortunately).

From the USACAPOC(A) Facebook page. This was my last jump. I am in there for a few seconds during the sustained airborne training (SAT) part. Served as the departure airfield control officer (DACO) for the jump (pain in the rear end - long story).

Yeah, you're old sir
5-jump chump here and went through as a non-contracted cadet back in the mid 90's. Fifth guy out the door, first one to hit the ground
Makes me sad to think about the whole situation in Iraq. I just found out that my Iraqi friend was killed last week by ISIS and my old FOB overrun.
Feeling the same way probably many Vietnam vets felt when Saigon fell

I am year group 91 so I am not that much older than you (actually I am - spent seven years enlisted first).
Fifth in your chalk and first on the ground? Ouch! You are a heavy drop/door bundle.
