That's freaking hilarious.

i was listening to a sirius show and the producer said "alexa, good night" or something and a dozen people started calling in saying you shut down my feed.

Meh. Most people are somewhat more acutely aware of these because they directly interact with them in this way.

Every smartphone has a microphone and 1 or 2 cameras. Most smart televisions have a microphone and a camera. Most "new" remote controls have a microphone. Every laptop has a microphone and 1 or 2 cameras, etc.

Now, the fridges and thermostats might slip by some folks, because they're right there as well - but not nearly as great a percentage of them with these capabilities as smartphones and laptops - and folks don't ever think about those devices as spy tools.
