About a half hour ago, my wife (no pics) and I heard and felt an explosion. Shook our house here in Lincoln County. I thought a tree had hit the house. Now people as far away as Port Gibson (where there is a nuclear plant), 50 miles or so from here, are reporting they also heard it/felt it, and people 20 miles or so in the other direction.

Now seeing reports of people claiming to have seen something with flames falling from the sky just before the explosion. Weird.

ETA: my best guess at the moment is a sonic boom. If something broke the sound barrier at 70,000 feet altitude, that would mean it would be felt/heard over a 70 mile area on the ground. Most likely a meteor, I reckon.

Joe Biden’s approval rating passed through.

War of the Worlds beginning north of Union Church, MS, so it’ll be a couple years before anyone is affected.

Some kind of space debris re-entry I assume. Or maybe a meteor. Space debris doesn’t usually cause shockwaves.

Weird, there's a skyscraper sized asteroid that is supposed to "scrape earth's orbit" tomorrow.

A-ROCK-ALYPTIC Enormous ‘potentially hazardous’ asteroid to soar past Earth tomorrow – and it’s twice as big as Empire State Building

There was also a "bus sized" one that came near our orbit yesterday.

I've personally confirmed with someone in Port Gibson that they heard and felt it, and also with folks who live 20 miles the other direction from us. but I've heard from others like you who heard/felt nothing - and they live IN Brookhaven. Weird.

When the ammo depot exploded up here a few years ago I felt the vibrations in my bed while sleeping. It was like a few seconds of those 'magic fingers' in the hotel rooms.
I dismissed it as a dream. When I got up I heard about the explosion. It was 50 miles away from my house. We didn't hear anything but the vibrations in the ground can travel a long way.

Years ago, we had a small earthquake where we live. I was in the house sitting at my desk on the computer and felt the floor sort of "roll" under me. Husband was visible to me out the window in the front yard on the riding lawn mower and didn't feel it. Probably because of the movement/vibration of the mower. So it's not surprising that some people wouldn't feel something in the same area, depending on what they are doing at the time.

This sounds strange. I hope you are able to get answers about what it was. Scary if it was an asteroid!
