We should be charging them interest for using our money

Nice try. We are overpaid versus what we put in - on average.

Just to be fair welfare benefits should be taxed too.

Fair Taxation would be to switch to consumption tax. Almost the same as a sales tax except per item (BOGO would be taxed on each item so not on sales price).

Want a house? A car? Even a Big Mac, pay the tax, no exceptions/exemptions and no homeowners deductions either. Flat tax @20-25 percent ought to cover the Federal side, state and local taxes would be extra.

It was a compromise.

Prior to 1983, Social Security benefits were not taxed.

In 1983, Congress passed legislation to fix SS. The legislation exposed up to 50% of Social Security benefits to federal income tax.

In 1993, with Dems in full control, tax exposure was upped to 85% of benefits for higher-income beneficiaries.

That's where we are now.

Exactly. The dems are bad, but not everything the GOP has done was great.

Why on earth would you say such a thing? As long as the person we vote for has an (R) behind their name, all is well.

As was the Reagan Administration’s amnesty for illegal Immigrants in 1986.

Anyone else seeing a pattern here?

Correct, but it’s not as if they were completely shut out from it either.

Technically you never paid taxes on the FICA deductions. It's a pre-tax benefit.

I love Ronnie. But Tip O'Neal and the Dems played him multiple times.
