It was spotted near Indonesia late last week. It is reportedly heading to the Korean Peninsula now, though. Just thought this was interesting, as I thought they were already in place, particularly with the North Korean "Day of the Sun" being this passed weekend.

quote:

More than a week after reports first emerged that the aircraft carrier and its accompanying ships were headed toward the peninsula amid fears North Korea may conduct another nuclear test, Navy photos from Saturday show Vinson operating nearly 3,500 miles away, off Indonesia.

quote:

Thus far, reports on Vinson’s impending arrival in waters near South Korea have come from White House and other Washington officials. The Navy and Pacific Command haven’t dissuaded any of those reports, but never explicitly confirmed Korea as its destination or discussed a timeline.

PACOM directed the Vinson strike group “to sail north and report on station in the Western Pacific Ocean after departing Singapore on April 8 … rather than executing previously planned port visits to Australia,” according to its initial statement on the move.

We already knew that they weren't near North Korea yet.

I think they said they wouldn't get there until April 24th.

Again, this isn't new information. We knew this from the start.

It's ridiculous how long it's taken.

With the assets in place on the Korean Peninsula, Japan and Okinawa, the Vinson can take its time.....The Gipper is apparently headed that way as well

I wonder if there is some strategy behind the length of time it is taking to get there. Any theories on that, or does it really just take this long?

Will probably allow all assets to arrive simultaneously.

Also might allow China time to work with NK.

Just to clarify, I was trolling mate. Not to be confused with trawling, which is apparently what the Vinson has been doing for the past 3 weeks on its way to Koreatown.

I like it. Keep people jumping. NK doesn't do shite because they think there is a CSG closing on their coast, then when they realize that isn't true, the CSG starts closing on their coast.

Perhaps by trawling for fish along the way they are preparing to feed the hungry North Koreans after Kim is deposed.

Vinson was leaving that area after doing exercises with South Korea. They were on the way to Australia for a port visit when they got turned around last month. On the way back to the water around Korea they stopped to do exercises with the Australian navy in the Indian Ocean.

This is all fairly typical stuff for navy operations.

You understand that this is real life and the Pacific ocean is somewhat large right?

Dude, they're resupplying juice boxes and snack packs. Who knows how long they'll be out there.
