So just threaten violence and you can shut down any speech you agree with?

What a convenient way out for colleges and universities that don't want to allow speech they disagree with.

Allowing a hecklers veto is not free speech

Only on the left. The right would get locked up/taken out with the quickness.

The ministry of I get to decide who has rights to speak needs to happen.

Liberals used to care about the 1st amendment. Yikes.

Yes. That's absolutely were we're headed. A bunch on this board are advocating for just that.

Our president is being attacked in the MSM because he defended free speech and assembly and because he dares to denounce all hate and violence instead of just "alt-right" hate and violence.

And the MSM is still refusing to even acknowledge that the ANTIFA professional protestors had anything to do with the incident.

This isn't going to go the way the progressive psychopaths want it to go. Calling Trump Hitler and a of his supporters Nazis didn't work so well last election. Doubling down on that complete stupidity isn't going to help them now either.

Why not just say frick it and use it to our advantage?

Let's start a group. Anytime Wolf Blitzer is on air I will punch a baby in the face. Ball is in your court, CNN.

Anytime Obama talks I will beat the nearest person half to death. Time to cancel any upcoming speech m

The ACLU put out a good piece on this yesterday.

quote:

Invoking the threat of violence cannot serve as the government’s carte blanche to shut down protests. If that were the case, governments would almost always be able to shut down protests, even when the protesters themselves are peaceful, because others could exercise a heckler’s veto through violence or the threat of violence. We must not give government officials a free pass to cite public safety as a reason to stifle protest. They have a responsibility to ensure the safety and security of all protesters and may make their case in court for reasonable time, place, or manner restrictions. That is what we sought in our lawsuit in Virginia.

More arrests need to be made. The threats need to be taken more seriously.

Treat them like threats of terrorism.

Free speech for all viewpoints should be the most protected right we have. With no expense spared.

I think the ACLU is about to put in some work over the next couple of months.

This exact thing happened in Portland about 2 months ago. A parade that's been held every year for 150 years was cancelled b/c a group threatened violence if the local Republicans were allowed to march, so they just cancelled the whole damn parade.
