Marriage is a civil contract and gays are being denied this civil right where they're banned from entering into a contract with someone of their own sex.

They are not being forced to do anything. What and how they view marriage is irrelevant in a secular world and the only thing that matters is their civil rights under the equal protection clause and 14th amendment.

Marriage is a social and secular institution that predates religion entirely anyway.

I don't think this is relevant in a discussion about marriage in a country that isn't 300 years old.
