It only mattered when Milo did it, because he is gay.

Only men can be sexual predators, apparently.

The age of consent varies dramatically across the first world. It should be a topic that we discuss rationally, and not with "frick you". And you really need to take into account the " ot factor" of people making throwaway comments for effect, before you allow yourself to get agitated about the subject. A lot of the stupidity here is intentional .

I don't know if the sentiment is completely wrong, but I'm pretty creeped out that any grown man would even put that sentence together.

Nah.

Adults preying on either pre pubescent or pubescent children is just...frick you.

Maybe it makes sense in backwards cultures with low life expectancy designed to maintain a net +3 birthrate. No. It's the excuse of the trash.

The poliboard should be renamed the pedophiliaboard considering how often this accusation is thrown around and discussed.

not just that. it varies state to state within the US

yeah calling anyone who says we need to look at theses policies a pedo is just insanity. and it's not to protect 40 year olds from engaging in sexual relations with 13 year olds, it's to protect 16-20 year olds from having their lives ruined for engaging in sexual relations with 15-17 year olds

prosecuting a kid who turns an age while his/her partner doesn't for a few months b/c of these arbitrary rules is kind of crazy, ESPECIALLY when you think about how draconinan the legal response is

say a 17 year old and a 16 year old have a long-term relationship and the older person turns 18 3 months before the 16 year old. they're still essentially about 1 year apart in age and are both teens. claiming we have to prosecute that now 18 year old for any sexual behavior undertaken in those 3 months WITH sexual predator registration as a prosecutorial threat is stupid

claiming that anyone who wants to have a discussion about this societal-criminal policy a pedo is insanity. this is a complicated issue that does not have bright lines and can get pretty crazy pretty easily

and then there are other factors. i looked up marital age of consent yesterday and you can have sex with a 12 year old in some states...if you marry the 12 year old. is that cool? it's legal in those states

That's actually very disturbing.

Then juxtapose that with alcohol laws. You can get married at 12, BUT YOU BETTER NOT DRINK FOR A DECADE; YOU'RE INCAPABLE OF MAKING THAT DECISION.

Read what I said again and how you responded. My point of course being that it is a good thing to discuss these matters and not have a category of free speech that is "verboten". And any discussion of the age of consent, the differences between boys \ girls, the role of pregnancy in arriving at that decision, the fact that rape is overwhelmingly a male crime, etc are good topics that rational people like to bat around. Nobody here is arguing for child rape (I'm sadly aware there are those who do).

I'm aware of the generalities. I don't see dramatic differences across the first world. It's mostly 14-17 and in many places it's 14 or 15, there's additional laws which can still be used to prosecute people who coerce sex out of minors.

And you don't think a 3-4 year difference among the first world is significant?

Or suggests that maybe 17-18 is a bit puritanical and illogical?

it's like i discussed yesterday. 18 is arbitrary on the LOW end. i don't know why we don't see a push to make age of consent more in line with alcohol and have it be closer to 21 or so. since we're picking random demarcations by age, 21 is as logical as 17-18 (as seen in other areas of governmental regulation)
