Should the Coast Guard and Border Patrol become one group?

The Coast Guard is one of our armed military services, while the Border Patrol is a law enforcement, employee-based department.
I know they are both part of DHS, but it appears they have a totally different structure, for a similar-type job.
It seems to me that our border should be secured by a more career military type group, than a unionized government police force.

no..Though the USCG is a pseudo law enforcement entity, it is still a military organization. CBP and the USCG are incompatible.

I'm not asking them to be compatible. I'm asking if the CBP should be disbanded and their duties taken over by the coast guard.
How is protecting our water borders that different from protecting our land borders?

The armed forces are governed by Title 10 and Title 32 (National Guard).
The USCG is governed by Title 14.
They are not the same. The USCG is more compatible with the Border Patrol than it is with the U.S. Navy.

That's kind of what I'm getting at.
We have traditional military.
We have the Coast Guard.
We have border patrol.
Why so many divisions? Seems some consolidation is in order.

The USCG and ICE already lump under the Department of Homeland Security. The missions are different and I really do not see a benefit of combining the two.
FYI, the USCG was under the Department of Transportation until around 2004.

Not arguing with you, because I am genuinely curious. How is it different? They are both guarding our borders.
ETA: Missions can be changed. It seems a lot of things are changing.

Sure. Whatever reduces waste and bureaucratic overhead I'm all for.

Get rid of DHS too while we're at it.
