Should be illegal to vote on any bill without actually reading it.

How many pages is the bill?

McConnell has to go. Or at the least lose the leadership. This is bullshite.

I will Never vote for an incumbent again. We may throw a few good ones out with the bathwater but that's the breaks.
Back in the "60's a family friend was elected. He served one term and then said he was out due to the sewer DC was and that is quite a few years ago so has gotten exponentially worse.

Deep State Preservation Bill

Tall order. The Dems will vote lockstep and Johnson doesn’t control 100% of the GOP conference.
As Speaker Johnson is the one deciding if the bill is brought to the floor. The informal rule is that it takes a majority of the majority (Republicans) to advance a bill. The speaker is not bound by that rule though.

It’s time for McConnell to retire or be voted out as Senate Minority leader.

I also believe that a majority of the House can force a vote over the Speakers objection. Losers like Crenshaw are probably willing to do that, and it would only take one more Republican besides him.

Don't you know you have to pass it to see what's in it.

I don’t think so. The speaker decides what goes to the floor in the House. In the Senate, it’s the Majority leader.
Hastert Rule Wiki
quote:
Under House rules, the speaker schedules floor votes on pending legislation. The Hastert rule says that the speaker will not schedule a floor vote on any bill that does not have majority support within their party—even if the majority of the members of the House would vote to pass it.

Gotcha. I thought there was some mechanism for the full House to force a vote, but maybe not.
Eta: there is, it’s a discharge petition.

A discharge petition signed by at least 218 members from any party is the only way to force consideration of a bill that does not have the support of the speaker.

Plausible deniability. Senators who get slammed by their constituents can plead ignorance and deadlines. Albeit those days are on the wane as the Nation teeters on the edge of collapse.

A simple bill to secure the border is over 600 pages long and it's a bill that's not required to secure the border. The American people better start getting serious about holding these elected buffoons accountable for their out of control deficit spending .....time is running out.

Yea you’re right. I was thinking that was just to get around a stubborn committee chair. I know that’s rare because the members have to sign the petition and it’s made public (which tells you something about this process). If Johnson allows members of the Republican caucus to sign that petition for this bill then he needs to be replaced.
