This is what passes for brilliance? I said as much during the primaries. He's still vastly superior to Clinton.

You basically just admitted that you base all your logical reasoning on fallacies...

awesom..

Sam Harris, as intelligent as he is, is a man whose disdain for Trump clouds his judgment.

I think the quote accurately frames trump. However, Harris gets confused about trump and totalitarianism. On the one hand he accurately, I think, discounts trump as an intellect, master persuader or brilliant businessman, but then he wants to credit him as someone with a master plan to destroy our democracy and putin-ize the US. You can't have it both ways. I think the clown show that is his administration makes it pretty clear we're not being led into a master plan takeover.

Who the frick is Sam Harris
He's a lesser known colleague of Seth Travis Schweizenitz, Jonathan Elwood-Sethson, and Connor Jonathan Kitchens, although he differentiates his view by presenting from a neuroscience perspective.

He tries to present his philosophical views in the same way Travis Gregory Stano presents his sports views.
He is a Chris Hitchens wannabe.

The problem is, he is often more Gruber than Hitchens. Viewpoint/bias are determinative of his logic, rather than the reverse. As a result his discussion varies from brilliant to intellectually dishonest, depending on his initial POV.

Hitchens would almost certainly disagree with that. They are very different in several ways.

Asking Sam Harris to comment without bias on Trump is like asking a butcher to explain the benefits of becoming a vegetarian or a Realtor to explain why FSBO is better. Not gonna happen. Dude can't see clearly when it comes to Trump. He doesn't understand why he was elected and he doesn't understand his appeal.

He really can't talk about the Trump presidency rationally. He claims to be a man of reason, but he determines the legitimacy or soundness of a policy by looking at Trump's character rather than looking at the policy itself.

and if the shoe were on the other foot, IMO Harris almost certainly wouldn't. Perhaps I'm wrong though.

Indeed.
Of course, the fact of actual difference would affect nothing of an emulation fantasy.

What specific policy has he disregarded based on Trump's support of it alone?
