Because it's where the Uniparty funnels its cash from China. If they didn't get their cash and orders from China, through the Ukraine, they might all have to actually do their jobs.

However, this is the EU's problem, but we know their conventional military capabilities have gone into major atrophy over the last 20 years (and, frankly, so have those of the US).
