Rubio: "You don't run for president with some eject button in the cockpit"

quote:
(voice-over): We caught up with Marco Rubio in Manchester, New Hampshire, his first foray to the first in the nation primary state since the last presidential election.
It's likely to be the first of many. Rubio is doing everything he needs to do to prepare for a presidential run, campaigning for Republicans across the country, hiring national staff, raising lots of money and even writing a book on his vision for America.
(on camera): It seems obvious you're moving closer to running for president?
RUBIO: I've openly said in the past that it's something I will consider at the end of this year, that I'll look at a number of factors, personal factors, but also, uh, whether I could best promote this message and -- and actually put in place these ideas that I want to see put in place, whether I could best do that from the presidency as opposed to the Senate.
KARL: He told us if he decides to run for president, there is no backup plan. The day he announces he is running, he would announce he is not seeking reelection to the Senate.
RUBIO: If I decide to run for president, I will not have some sort of exit strategy to run -- to run for the Senate. And that...
KARL: That will be a decision not to run for reelection?
RUBIO: I believe that if you want to be president of the United States, you run for president.
KARL: It's all or nothing?
RUBIO: You don't run for president with some eject button in the cockpit that -- that -- that allows you to go on an exit ramp if it doesn't work out.

Three observations
1) He's running
2) He's calling out Rand Paul for wanting to have his cake and eat it too by running for President and the Senate at the same time
3) His Senate seat should be open in 2016

Tell that to Paul Ryan and John McCain.

There's something slightly different at play with Rubio and Paul. As it now stands, I believe both would be prohibited by their own state's law from running for both Pres and Senate at the same time.
Paul has been lobbying hard to get Kentucky to change their law.

Joe Biden ran for Vice President and reelection as Senator in 2008, where was the outrage from you and your fellow democrats?

He doesn't have outrage. The liberal tactics on this board lately have been disrupt and derail. They seem to all get the same memos.

Obama spent most of his time, while a US Senator, running for President.
But, I'm sure Decatur was outraged over that.

"You don't run for president with some eject button in the cockpit"
Nice mixed metaphor. I can envision an entire marathon of runners with cockpits on the top of their bodies.

Bill Clinton didn't give up his position of governor of Ark. while running for president. That equates to having your cake and eating it too. Of course his own presidential run was predicated on a lie to the people of Ark. and they fell for it hook, line and sinker.

4) You NEVER make public your tactical campaign strategy. Rubio's mistake (if he's running).
As for his running, as I've said previously, Jeb has to clear the playing field. It does not appear that is happening. If Rubio decides to run in competition with Jeb, it will prove a massive miscalculation. I think he's a Jeb backer, hence the jab at Rand. My bet is Rubio's out in 2016.

Ever since 1960 when LBJ got Texas to pass a law making it legal to run for President/Vice President at the same time you run for Senate/Congress, other states have done it as a common courtesy for their own Presidential aspirants who were in a similar situations - Connecticut for Lieberman in 2000, Delaware for Biden in 2008, Wisconsin for Ryan in 2012. IMO, Kentucky's House Speaker Greg Stumbo is being chickenshit for blocking his states "LBJ law".

He's in a great spot for a VP pick especially if Bush doesn't run/get the nomination. He should , as Ryan did, keep his powder dry.

Ditto Joe Lieberman in 2000.

Did Obama resign his senate seat when he was campaigning for President?
