Snipped in Solidarity

I didn't read the article bc the headline said enough. This reminded me of a crawfish boil a few years back and around the time abortion was sent back to the states. This young fella, who was nice enough, was with his gf and the topic came up. He seemed rather proud to announce his willingness to get a vasectomy in light of the recent political change. It struck me as odd at the time, something seemed fraudulent about this proclamation. Anyways, I gave it some thought recently and came up with the following thoughts/questions. Why now? Where was this willingness beforehand? Certainly allies of women would take seriously the negatives associated with an unwanted pregnancy. Shame, career aspects, guilt with the termination of a lifeform, body changes, ability to provide, etc,,, Why did these guys leave the burden on women up until this point? Seems like a very large part of the contentious debate would have been rendered moot had they taken such a stance beforehand.

I'm open to counterpoints as it is not a complete thought at this point.

As a side note. I discussed a vasectomy with a urologist a while ago. I'm not sure what it was all about, but he said that any reversal would have to be within a year to be reliable. Don't know if it is a thing for the general population, but if it is, yikes for these fellas and there future wives.

Edit to add: don’t recall if it was said or not, but I always had the impression the dude felt it was reversible as needed. Could be mis-remembering though.

In general the reversals do not have sky high success rates. I'm all for anyone supporting abortion to have a vasectomy as a show of solidarity. I think it is a great idea.

My co-worker's grew back, like 3 years later.

Surprise! He made his wife get a paternity test to prove it.

As long as the risks are known, we are in agreement.

I don't blame him. I would've done the same thing.

ROFL, According to urologist, what can happen is the two ends of the vas deferens can become unbound and rest in a pocket or whatever. They don’t grow back necessarily, but the receiving end is open and sitting in a tub of spooge.

Vasectomies aren't just for avoiding having a baby. My favorite case was about 40 years ago. A Prof at U.Texas had just gotten married to his lefty wife. He told me that he and the wife decided they didn't want to bring a child into a society that had hierarchies.
He also said his students didn't like it when he came to class barefoot.
Me: 'So, why come to class without shoes?'
Him: "I'm a nihilist. In 100 years nobody will know nor care what I did."

Simple question.

Do you wanna have kids or not?

If not, he was probably going to make this decision anyways.

If he does, then he's retarded. He's trading sex right now for children in the long term.

Why did he eat or drink water?

He had a plan, made a decision and presumably stuck to it. Good for him.

I'm 99% sure that Shawn not reproducing is a net positive

The thought occurred to me, but my general belief is to avoid doing anything in your teens or twenties that your 30 year old self will have to deal with. He very likely could be a different person by then.

From your description, it sounds like vasectomy would be a societal favor.

This reminds me, I’ve got my vasectomy test sitting on my counter that I need to complete. I’m a little over a year post op and need to make sure I’m still neutered.

Anyone’s wife want to give me a hand?

Apparently it takes about 30 nuts post-op to get all the batter out. Obv for any couple involved, the misses has some responsibility in said arrangement.
