There seems to be some hand-wringing on the hill about it. Democrats will fight tooth and nail to stop it, but if the GOP holds steady there won't be anything they can do. Fascinating.

quote:

Republicans in Congress have made cutting off funding to Planned Parenthood one of their top priorities, but the issue could stymie President Donald Trump’s Obamacare repeal plans and even trigger a government shutdown.

House Republicans insist that the emerging plan to end Obamacare must cut off an estimated $500 million in annual federal funding for Planned Parenthood over its provision of abortions, aiming to carry out two longtime GOP campaign promises at once. Democrats are equally determined to ensure that won’t happen, and a few Republicans may stand with them.

“Planned Parenthood defunding language is going to be in the Obamacare repeal,” says Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio, a founder of the conservative House Freedom Caucus. “It’s critically important that we do it.”

Senator Patty Murray of Washington, a member of Democratic leadership, counters, “Let me be clear: for Democrats, defunding Planned Parenthood is a complete non-starter.”

The Planned Parenthood fight is making several Republicans uncomfortable as well, narrowing support for the emerging GOP plan to repeal Obamacare and endangering the razor-thin majority needed to pass the measure in the Senate.

I'll believe it when I see a repeal.

I'll wait for IB to let us know if that is considered an entitlement or not before I respond.

Can they stay open from the funds they get from selling baby parts? If so, then they should stay open.

I'll believe it when I see it. Like the dems, the repubs need new, younger, leadership.

All talk and no action

This is simply throwing meat to the base

The base will be temporarily satisfied that they hear this, but unless it becomes reality, I just see it as political posturing

Probably true. The dead giveaway is the attitude of "oh, but we don't know if we'll be able to get it through." Classic GOP bullshite tactic. These idiots know that we know they can get through anything they want right now.

Not sure why they are so anti PP and welfare. That viewpoint seems to counter each other. PP provides a service to the poor, a group that most elites want to ignore. Let them work.

I support defunding PP but tying it to Obamacare repeal is stupid. The repeal itself is hard enough to accomplish without giving Dems something to coalesce around.

Need 60 votes to break a filibuster. Defunding PP ensures no crossover votes in Senate but repeal and replace by itself could get moderate Dems in red or purple states to crossover

Can anyone say with certainty whether or not Repubs will do a full repeal & replace of Obamacare? It seems that it changes every week between tweaking it and repealing it. I know Trump promised a full repeal but who knows if that will happen

It's almost like...wait for it...the Republicans don't want to actually have Obamacare repealed.

I'm tired of hearing about Planned Parenthood. I question why the government was ever funding this organization in the first place, but it's such a partisan issue at this point.

Murkowski and Collins won't vote for a bill that defunds Planned Parenthood.
