Republicans must be trying to lose the next election. Talk about tone deaf

House Republicans looking at cutting almost $1 billion from disaster accounts to help finance Trump border wall:
President Donald Trump is promising billions to help Texas rebuild from Hurricane Harvey, but his Republican allies in the House are looking at cutting almost $1 billion from disaster accounts to help finance the president’s border wall.
The pending reduction to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s disaster relief account is part of a spending bill that the House is scheduled to consider next week when Congress returns from its August recess. The $876 million cut, part of the 1,305-page measure’s homeland security section, pays for roughly half the cost of Trump’s down payment on a U.S.-Mexico border wall.
It seems sure that GOP leaders will move to reverse the disaster aid cut next week. The optics are politically bad and there’s only $2.3 billion remaining in disaster coffers.

Remember when the shutdown in 2013 lost Republicans congress in 2014

I don't really care about "optics" any more because no matter what happens, the ones who control the optics (MSM) will always twist it negatively towards Republicans.
Our representatives should be looking at what options are best for our country, not what looks good or bad. I find it hard to believe that cutting disaster relief is the best way to go about saving money to fund the wall, though.

There is probably a trillion in waste and fraud, so I'll allow it!
Edit: and it will probably save trillions in government "services" for illegal aliens!

They could start by correcting the bullshite of "paying" for a specific billion with another specific billion in a $4 trillion budget

Illegal immigration is a disaster and has cost us more than Katrina and Harvey combined.

Won't hurt them. Trump ended Obama programs designed to mitigate flooding in coastal areas from storms because they mentioned climate change, and not one of his supporters has given a single frick about that during the flooding in Houston from the storm.

Trump cut the Gender-change operations from the Military Budget; he'll use that saving to pay on the Wall.
The rest will be smoke and mirrors from those who oppose control of our Border.

Let's talk about stupid for a moment, you fricking idiot.
There is $2.3B left in the CURRENT disaster relief budget. The fricking fiscal year is just about over, but any relief given out of that $2.3B will NOT be affected if Congress lowers the amount FEMA gets in the next budget.
Meaning NO frickING MONEY IS BEING TAKEN OUT OF THE $2.3 frickING BILLION LEFT IN THE DISASTER RELIEF FUND TO PAY FOR THE frickING WALL

Here is an idea....how about we stop spending money designing and building in non-sustainable ways. Coastal areas are going to flood. We should live in such a way that doesn't cause significant impacts.

Well obviously neither do Republicans. Ted Cruz begging for disaster relief money for Texas after voting against it for Sandy victims has got to be bad optics, but WGAF?

That might get you one load of bricks.

Maybe I'm just an a-hole (okay I AM an a-hole) but I find it hard to gin up much sympathy for people who live on the coast and don't have hurricane and flood insurance.

I guess looking at cutting budget items is grounds for recall.

The money is earmarked for disaster relief. The optics are terrrible and cursing like a boy who didn't get his way isn't persuading anyone. This is an adult conversation so take your gutter mouth somewhere else.
