So you're glad a subset of people were enslaved because of skin color?
and he's the racist...

It was all worth it to him as he now has black friends whom he may have otherwise never known. He admitted his reason was selfish, so I can at least respect his honesty.

Who enslaved them in the first place?
I'll hang up and listen.

They weren't enslaved because of skin color.

An actual African once told me they call people from Liberia "American-Africans".
The official term is "Americo-Liberian" - but yeah, same difference. Liberia wasn't a homogenous country of freed slaves like some of you seem to think.

Liberia developed its own apartheid system, but black-on-black.
If you could trace your ancestry to America, then you were allowed to join the political establishment and could gather wealth from the extractive economy. If not, you were permanent underclass.
Exactly. Oh the irony.

I never thought it was homogeneous. I just find it ironic that the freed slaves basically enslaved the locals by locking them out of the political system.
You'd think they'd be sympathetic.

Made for an awkward few decades starting in the 80s. Oops.
To be fair, we did kind of help with that. There's a reason Monrovia's airport runway was (until recently) the longest in Africa, and it wasn't because Liberia spent the money on it.

not rocket science here

Kind of? We financed them well into the 1960s and in return used their natural resources. At one point Liberia was a popular American vacation destination. In the 90s it was hell on earth.

Liberia was not founded by white guilt. It was a place to simply send the blacks to and get rid of them. It was the opposite of white guilt, it was "get out of town (nword).

They should've just worked them over in Africa and sent the goods on ships. Leave them there when they decided to abolish slavery. We wouldn't have to put up with all this BS over something we had nothing to do with now
I am not an expert on the economics of trans atlantic slave trade. However, my guess is that in-house production of goods had more advantages
1) It probably would cost more to per load of cash crop to trade over the Atlantic.
2) Slave revolt/runaway would be much higher even with colonies set up in slave labor camps. In the US you could more easily get other states to return your slaves and fight with you to stop them.
3) The cost of maintaining the slave labor camps would not only have the expected cost of slave maintenance, but you would probably have to pay private soldiers/guards to keep your slaves and defend against possible attack from other African tribes.

More info on this? Link?
I'm not doubting you but I've never heard that before.

^This. Lincoln and some other politicians simply wanted to get ride of Blacks. Liberia was just political maneuvering to give them their own country, so they would not longer be in the US. Thereby preventing another civil war from happening again.

That's not analogous to reparations or whatever "New Colonia" is supposed to be, at all. We invaded another country and dumped former slaves there, just because it was the right continent.
Holy shite!
Why does the asylum allow you access to a computer?

They obviously didn't give much thought to how great America would be with out the former slaves, or the historical record of Blacks in establishing anything approaching an admirable society.

So, you have black friends. That's nice. I have a black daughter.
