He was the little guy Obama nominated for SCOTUS before America decided to MAGA.

Just a little footnote from a slice of American history that most people have already forgotten about. Do you feel a little bad for Merrick?

No. Not in the slightest.

I hope Trump nominates him to replace Ginsburg when she finally just dies.

I wonder if Special Counsel Mueller will take Garland on staff to research the legal question whether Trump committed Obstruction. I would not be surprised.

Maybe at some point his name will be used as a verb like Robert Bork, so he might have that going for him.

A little. He was a sacrificial lamb to the political gods.

Sure. He has every possible qualification for the Court and is well liked and respected. Had he been nominated earlier in Obamas term he would have received near unanimous approval. The Republicans for once, held the line though. A minor miracle.

I think when history looks back on this crazy election, mitch mcconnell's decision to decline hearing this nomination will go down as the major catalyst that lead to the chaos.

SC noms are implied with an election, but rarely are they guaranteed. That being at stake took the election up a notch, imo.

No, I don't feel bad for him. He's still a judge from what I can tell and he's doing alright for himself.

I thought that would be a good idea as well.

I side with Republicans mostly (I'm independent) but I personally believe if Obama nominated him, a vote should have been held. I think it's bullshite that it wasn't and it looks bad. Now where is the line going to be? Within 1 year of an election? 18 months? I don't know but it's not really ok that they couldn't tell him no right to his face (via vote)

Let's be real here. They didn't do him any favors with that podium.

No more than I do Harriet Meier.

Both were simply pawns of the presidents who put them up. I'm guessing both realized they had as much chance as I do of getting to a Senate SC Nomination hearing.

How many times did you see Obama actually speak out on the issue? Did you ever see him do it forcefully ONCE?

Think about that for a minute.

I can't recall any times but honestly didn't pay that much attention.

Point is, he wasn't named with any expectation he'd be nominated. Everyone knew the game.
