Mr. Obama is a major upgrade from what I call him.

I used to think the same thing when they referred to W as Mr. Bush. But I guess it's acceptable - 60 minutes wouldn't be using that language if it wasn't.

ETA: Personally, I would only refer to any president as President _____.

as long as you are not directly talking to him Mr. Obama is fine, especially if it is the second or third time you reference him in a piece.

ETA: he is an elected public servant not royalty.

Referring to him as the President is a fricking insult to every American.

Some news agencies do this as a matter of course.

I wouldn't meet him in person. If given the opportunity I would turn it down. No way I could separate my respect for the office of the President, from my disrespect for the man currently in that office.

On the topic, Mr. is perfectly fine and has been used for years. But I don't recall it being used a lot until Bush and now with Hussein.

Jesse Jackson almost always referred to the previous president as "Bush," and it was obviously meant to be disrespectful.

My preferred name for the current occupant of the office? FORMER President Barack Obama.

Can't wait for that to be the case. America, hopefully, will be a lot better off when that day comes.

This is the correct answer.
He is not royalty,he works for the people. The people do not bow down to,nor do they work for him.
"Mr." is absolutely acceptable.

I remember it being an issue on the right when media called W. "Mr. Bush." I honestly don't recall many references to "Mr. Clinton" when he was president. So, now that precedent has been set, I'll allow it.

Every President I've ever known as been referred to by multiple names. Using Reagan as an example, these names would include:

Mr. President
President Reagan
Mr. Reagan
Reagan

The only reason this is an issue now is because retards like ATL love to whine that Obama is disrespected because he is black.

In other news, water is wet.

I do not think this should be a partisan issue at all. It is about respect for the executive branch.

Please let me know if i am off base here. Thanks for your time.

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to call him Mr. President - or President Obama.

But its not really that big a fricking deal, come on.
