I can also see the other side as well. What if you knocked up a girl and she didn't want you in the child's life because she didn't know you, so she claims you raped her to keep you away?

Then she would have to convince law enforcement, DA and 12 people of his peers that it was rape and a conviction is handed down and upheld.

Politicians do things to please a constituency or to personally enrich themselves or their benefactors. Or just because it's the right thing to do.
This is none of those things.
When I see politicians do things that don't fit any of those categories, it is absolutely puzzling.

a lot of outrage but they didn't cite a single time that the rapist gained custody. We don't need a law for everything.
