...True, and the Clarence Thomas hearings were part 2 of that. Maybe even worse. Thomas countered them perfectly and put them in their place. I've always loved Thomas because of the absurd abuse he received in that hearing. I wish people could see what an arrogant a-hole Joe Biden was in that hearing.

That hearing is the biggest and best example of the most racist behavior you will ever see democrats putting out. So racist it would make Strom, Byrd and LBJ proud. Watching youtube videos of it, it really is amazing to watch the sheer gall of it and how democrats gave zero fricks about it because they had the press on their side and didn't have to worry about social media.

I seem to remember Ted Kennedy leading the charge and painting him as the Devil himself.

I know it seems tiresome after the past 2-3 months and lord knows I've grown tired of it after the past several decades but the Democrats basically painted Bork as (all together now):

Misogynistic - who would force women into the back ally
Racist - who would prevent blacks from voting or receiving equal justice
And also to blame for everything from Watergate to Irancontra.

They were relentless and America -at that time- didn't have the stomach for the shite ton of name calling that rained down on him on TV. So, no filibuster-proof vote for him...

I don't remember him being labeled as a homophobe, though. Which is kind of telling because even though the AIDs crisis was front and center at that time, what we would now call the LGBT(QRSTUVWXYZ) community had not consolidated and the vast majority of politicians -even the Dems- were still squeamish to be very 'open' in their advocacy.

It was an education of how the democrat party really viewed their double standard with regard to race. It holds true to this very day.

The difference was that there was no counter to the Kennedy/media narrative. No alternate opinions were given reasonable airtime. Bork was evil incarnate per the big three networks. No Fox or Limbaugh to even suggest that something wasn't right about those reports.
