Are the Ukrainians even claiming that any of their aircraft were shot down at altitudes exceeding what the separatists say their capabilities are? I haven't heard it if so. They would be plastering that all over the news to counter the separatist claims if that was the case.
look back a page

I was talking about the transports and previous shoot downs.
This is new info pertaining to the su's. It would be pretty stupid to claim a range of 12-13k feet and then use a platform capable of hitting 17000 right after the airliner shoot down. These guys would be idiots if that is the case.
But the link indicates these missiles may have come from inside Russia. Well that adds a whole other element of not good into the equation.

Putin is letting cavemen run around with big boy toys. Who can't get their story straight.

Putin is trying to escalate the violence in Eastern Ukraine so the Ukrainian military is forced to use more force. Then he will swoop in and annex like he did Crimea in the name of protecting civilians.

I can see that being the case but shooting down Ukrainian jets over Ukrainian airspace from Russia would be brazen and dangerous given the potential international reaction. Seems as though there is much more to lose unless he's seeking a much larger portion of Ukraine and is willing to risk the international backlash associated with directly provoking state to state military conflict.

What does he really have to lose though? He knows the west won't intervene militarily. I personally don't think the missile came from inside Russia but rather the Ukrainians are throwing that out there as a possibility just to garner attention and support from the international community.

Ukraine is def already using the total war approach. A lot of people are not realizing the rebels shelling just as much and even hit the people the claim are liberating.
