How was it nearly dead? Lots of players continued doing it this year, no?

I haven't watched a single game including pre-season mind you. That's why I'm asking.
That's the point. People were either not watching or didn't care. Now all of the sudden they hate football.

I did watch about 5 minutes of the Jags kicking the shite out of the Ravens - full disclosure.

They don't show it a lot of the time, so I'm not going to make a representation I can't defend

But what I can affirm is that there was much less discussion about it in articles, in broadcasts, etc. To the extent it was happening, nobody seemed to be paying too much attention to it (which is a good thing, IMO).

Now, people were whining about Kaep not getting a job, but that was nothing compared to this.

This wasn't that long of a walk really.

I was saying on THIS board 2-3 years ago that it was becoming more and more evident because of social media that the fans of football would no longer be able to ignore that the people they went to the stadiums to cheer for were largely people who the fans would find wholly distasteful as people IRL.

They were already starting to see that with the NBA.

I mean, sit in the stands of any football game. 98% of the people in the stands are middle and upper middle class whites. Heck, it's almost a little surreal really if you just look at it from the outside.

Almost has a gladiator look to it.

I've thought for some time that this reality, in a world with more access to information, might become an issue for the NBA and football.

This just happens to be a moment in time, but I'm not sure even without the kneeling that we weren't going to see a trend on this.

Heck, a substantial portion of those middle/upper middle parents won't even little Johnny play football anymore.

Nothing in life is permanent. I think a situation where people cheer for people they really don't like was always going to be tenuous at best.

And to stop your next thread before it begins, Boat, that NFL rulebook entry about standing for the anthem is fake.

It probably is fake since the Washington Post says this Washington Post
quote:

Under the league rule, the failure to be on the field for the anthem may result in discipline such as a fine, suspension or loss of a draft pick. But a league official said the key phrase is “may” result, adding he won’t speculate on whether the Steelers would be disciplined.
quote:

The specific rule pertaining to the national anthem is found on pages A62-63 of the league’s game operations manual, according to a league source. It states: “The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem. “During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.”

Very fake news

Nah

They're helping to politicize football. They want a war between black athletes and themselves, for some reason. Probably because Trump pushing average black athletes who didn't give a frick last year to take a knee this year just justifies their mindset that this is some good vs evil conflict where Trump supporters are Godly and people who dislike Trump are threats to the republic

If they were still doing it and fans were still booing then how was it nearly dead?

Again, no no care.

The fun is starting to taper off.

We're entering Poliboard Stage 4: Repost the same 3 or 4 threads over and over again.

I'm not a big fan of Poliboard Stage 4.

Gotcha.

So not really dead just less publicized.

Look, if people don't want to watch because of millionaires protesting during the national anthem then they have that right.

I don't see an issue with the protesters or those that don't want to pay to see them play any longer.

The market will settle it one way or another.

This too will blow over and most will return to watch football. People like the sport too much to abandon it forever. Much virtue signaling going on and I don't think the #boycott will be widespread or long-lasting.

That is unless the protesters overcompensate and do something to spite Trump that will piss off much of the ticket-buying base.

Who is they? I wonder if you can venture a guess as to what the percentage of white vs. black actually attend a professional sporting event? What the percentage of conservative vs. liberal actually attend? Care to take a shot at which side supports it more?

The President hates the NFL and football. You should side with him and not watch anymore.

Trump supporting Law enforcement did that. That's what Kapernick was protesting in the first place, correct. The plight of the black man.

Here or everywhere? I live in Atlanta. Black people absolutely go to the games.

But in general, white middle class people drive professional sports, like they drive most everything else in this country.
