And a future president can undue it all with the stroke of a pen.

That is just from your last 10 posts. You're constantly angry or offended by someone or something on this board. I have no idea how you could possibly survive a post quality check by an admin.

All it takes is a few dives in waters that are protected (like in The Keys) and then in unprotected areas. The differences in them is astounding, as the damage done by boats, anchors, fishing trawlers, etc.. simply wrecks these reefs forever.
I am in favor of this, although I wish he'd do the same with our borders.

Do these type of reserves prevent all fishing?

As long as there are right-wing websites dedicated to providing conservatives with their daily 2 minutes hate, there will be idiotic threads. Those sweet sweet ego strokes from WND, The Blaze and Business Insider feel soooooo goooood.

Where in relation to the huge floating trash continent is this ocean preserve?

I approve this. If we lose the oceans we lose.

Barack Obama will use his presidential powers on Thursday to create the world’s largest marine reserve in the Pacific, banning fishing and other commercial activities across vast swaths of pristine sea populated by whales, dolphins and sea turtles and dotted with coral atolls
As a scuba diver, this excites me.

Hold onto your wallets...
Sounds expensive.
I guess some Democratic donors running an "ocean reserve creation company" are about to have quite a few good years.

While I agree with the end here, shouldn't establishing a preserve like this really be a duty of Congress? This reeks of Authoritarianism.

This seems to have less to do with conservation and more to do with us asserting authority over territory that does not belong to us.
Posted on 9/26/14 at 10:51 am to Sentrius
Seems like a good idea and atleast some attempt to balance commercial need and conservation. Nice.
