Someone forwarded this to me, the latest in the communications from a large state university newly-appointed president. Black history, support for illegal immigrants (through appointment of a person paid for by, presumably, student fees), the creation of a minor in Black women's studies (ought to help tons in that upcoming job search), etc, etc. NOT one mention of academic excellence! This is what passes for higher ed these days.

LINK
The department is widely acclaimed for its unique concentration in Black feminist thought and intersectionality, and it is the only department in the nation that offers a Black women's studies minor, jointly with the Department of African American Studies. Historically, Black women have played a brave and critical role in social justice. Harriet Tubman's life and her dedication to freedom and equality speaks directly to the department's mission, now and in the years ahead.

Welcome to higher education where the money matters and education doesn't.

You watch these videos on YouTube to see college students speaking, and they are so ignorant. They know all the social answers but if you ask them simple history questions , they are clueless.

Are there any colleges left that still believe in academic rigor and teach critical thinking skills?

I went to a small liberal arts college back in the 80's and it was an excellent school. We were challenged and taught to look at issues from all sides. I probably wouldn't be where I am today if it hadn't been for that school.

I honestly don't know if there are. Aside from Hillsdale, I'm not familiar with any. And after the scandal at Liberty.....

president@umd.edu

I've been emailing judges and so-called academicians asking them if they care about their reputation among those who've maintained a shred of intellectual integrity.

No one replies. I use my real firm email address and explain my background.

They live in a bubble of foolishness.

Fools are worse than mere idiots. Fools don't necessarily lack the raw brain power. They're just blinded by all manner of pride and untruth.

Weird that an email updating how the inclusion plan is going would focus on the inclusion plan

Seems I heard the Citadel is going to teach a mandatory course in the constitution also. Is it surprising universities feel no responsibility to teach the constitution and the truth about our country? I've been out of college for decades and it was slanted left when I went. But we have to send our kids there to learn a trade of sorts and to get the full university life which now includes a large dose of "America is a bad place now and historically".

I really think he meant to say that no one is teaching critical thinking these days and the importance of looking at both sides of the issue. I don't think there was any intention to say there are any merits on the other side in this case.

Intellectual integrity is code blue. None of these 'academics' has a shred of integrity left. As for intelligence, that went the way of the dodo bird.

Hampden-Sydney College is an excellent liberal arts school that stresses critical thinking. One of only three all male colleges left in the country too.

Thank you for mentioning, I am not familiar with them. I'll add to my (extremely short) list.

If colleges were required to be liable for the product they delivered a lot of this crap would end and a bunch of Marxists would be out of university work. For example, if a student borrowed a lot of money and got an education that allowed her to only get a job at Starbucks as a barista, then the college should be on the hook for part or all of the student loans they accepted as payment.

It's only fair that kids should not be sold a fraudulent bill of goods about their "higher education."

Ideology can be like a powerful drug that can render otherwise intelligent people stupid.

As the old saying goes, only an intellectual could believe something that dumb.

Marxism is a cult.

More kids should learn a trade and forget about the college stuff. And consider how many administrators and non teachers that exist in these schools? They are bulletproof when it comes to dollars. We will pay whatever they ask or students will borrow whatever it costs to go there. And professors with tenure can be as marxist as they want to be. I don't think I've ever run into a conservative professor.
And to think the politicians in power in "conservative states" like Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and the like just let these schools do what they wanted to do with little oversight and hell to pay for doing things wrong. The genie is way too far out of the bottle to be put back in.

This is correct. I have looked at it, given it consideration, weighed the pros and cons, and firmly concluded that there is no merit at all to the other side of this issue.

From what I've seen of the "culcha", this is an oxymoron.
