Bill to create crime prevention district around LSU passes through House, will cost business owners thousands of dollars - Barbara Freiberg - Tax Happy RINO proposes a property tax on business owners that will cost $5K a year. People who do not own property or a business will be able to vote for this tax, that they themselves will not have to pay, yet get to vote for it?
LSU Business and Property Owners better wake up.

If taxes prevent crime,
why isn't crime going down?

Aren’t residents already paying taxes for Baton Rouge PD and EBRSO to patrol their areas?
Why should residents have to pay more those agencies need to do their job instead of creating another state or local agency?
If more funding is needed, why not pass a tax parish or city wide tax to better fund those agencies instead of making your own keystone cops which will probably be State Police, EBRSO, or BRPD off duty officers working details.

Seems like it will be business owners paying this tax and any resident can vote for the tax without having to be held responsible for paying this tax. $5,000 a year is serious cost on small businesses. Taxation without Representation. If you own a business in this proposed district but don't live in it, other people can actually vote for the tax you will be held responsible to pay for. This tax is going to drive the cost of business up and will make it unfeasible for many small business owners.

Businesses don’t pay taxes. They are paid by consumers through the costs businesses charge.
Higher taxes = higher prices
Higher taxes = higher prices

The joke on everyone who passes this.
The people for it hide all the information.
Reality you are only going to get a small amount of extra patrols. A certain percentage usually goes to beautification.
A lot of the money will go for the insurance to pay for the patrols. Example is an officer kills honor student and 15 time convicted fellon lavarious by accident. The liability falls on every property owners in the crime prevention district instead of LSUPD (state) or BRPD (city).
Instead of finding a local police dept which LSU has BRPD and LSUPD which that money would go further, they want extra patrols.
It sad that almost every area of the parish now has a crime prevention district. Tells me the BRPD and sheriff have failed at their jobs.

In the LSU Situation the state would be better to make it a special district.
Have LSUPD enforce the area.
Take x dollars from property owners and the state take the liability.
You would get more patrols.
Reality is the insurance a Crime Prevention District has to get and the larger the more expensive eats a lot of the cost up.
This reduces money for patrols.
Still have to have some money go to beautification.
That takes even more from increased patrols.
If the whole goal increased patrols this would be a better option as 100% of the money would go to patrols.

Only people in the boundaries of the taking district can vote.
Now...if someone in an apartment is registered to vote from that residence, they will be able to vote despite not owning the property.
Which is horseshite.

This bill came to me from residents, from business owners, from LSU officials who are concerned about the rise of crime not only in Baton Rouge but in particular around the LSU area," Freiberg said.

Areas pay extra tax for additional protection.
It is like paying for a Disney FastPass… if you pay X, you are guaranteed to have Y number of cops who can respond within Z minutes.

One of these does their fricking job. The other one is BRPD.

Of the $5k increase, how much of that will be stolen or misappropriated?
$3k?

You forgot the part where if they live in Louisiana they have a representative that will vote on the passage of the bill

Depends on how much their council weasel wets their beak.

It WILL pass. We just passed one in Mid-city...And I have to pay on my house and triple that on my business. All so a BRPD cop can sit in his cruiser a white neighborhood instead of having to cross Florida Blvd and deal with the source of crime

They need to put LSU in a Green Zone as if it was in Baghdad

This sounds somewhat illegitimate to tax only a certain percentage of area
