Disclaimer: I am conservative and very pro-2A, but I can't seem to find a reason to justify people being able to buy full riot gear/body armor.
A bulletproof vest, sure. and yes I'm aware this has nothing to do with the Vegas shooter.

People always talk about gun control and why do people need AR-15's. I always wondered what would someone need full bulletproof riot gear/armor, and other para-military equipment.

Like the North Hollywood shootout guys, they were armored and protected basically head to toe. Cops couldn't do shite until they had to go get armor piercing rounds.

Dude, I know that, I know why it exists.
But if you go that route, then we should be able to buy machine guns and have nukes also, because our government has that too.

I'm not attacking the rights to buy the body armor, simply looking for reasons from others.

Resisting tyranny...that's the reason.

Same reason why you should have the right to own any weapon/defense the government does.

Why do you think they shouldn't be able to sell it? Because a tiny portion of people do bad things with it? This is an argument for not selling anything. People steal hundreds of billions of dollars a year with computers, does that mean I shouldn't be able to buy a computer if I want one? It's called freedom. They are plenty of places to live where you can't do shite, if rather keep the us like it is

Same principle.

Legal purchase is legal purchase.

What is the thought process that says if body armor, then nuclear weapons?

I don't see how buying something that protects you from potentially lethal gunfire should be illegal. If someone thinks it's going to protect them in a shootout with the cops these days, they're sorely mistaken.

I don't know why someone would need or want body armor. But it's not my place to tell that person what they do or don't need. If we choose to have a free society, we must accept the choices people make so long as they don't infringe upon our own rights.

Nobody is happy about what happened in Las Vegas but the answer to these types of horrific crimes is sometimes uncomfortable. Crazy people exist and they'll find a way to kill when they want to. Taking away everyone else's freedoms and liberty won't stop the next crazy from doing something in the future.

You’re being reasonable on an unreasonable message board. The mere notion of asking questions is received as infringement on everyone’s rights. Any intellectually honest people would agree we have a gun problem brought on by access to guns and the amount of guns in the country, and you don’t need much of a scientist to tell us why, because no one else has it. Thats where some people stop reading and downvotes but I’ll keep going I feel like you’ll read it. We’re already too far down the gun hole as a nation to try and ‘scale back’ or limit guns, because it’s true that taking something away would just leave the bad guys with the guns. The debate for gun control should have happened hundreds of years ago, so while I’m not dense enough to not admit we have a (maybe) unfixable problem, I own hand guns and a DDM4 and I proudly carry when i leave my house.

I was speaking to the poster who said:

By that principle, we should have the right to buy anything and everything the government has.. aka nukes, automatic weapons, etc.
