Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin lamented "you can’t buy willpower" during a call with members of Congress Sunday, as the Taliban neared a total takeover of Afghanistan, according to a source.

Austin, along with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Army Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, briefed members of the House and Senate during separate unclassified virtual conferences Sunday morning on the rapidly deteriorating situation in Afghanistan.

The officials conveyed the U.S. was prepared for all scenarios, but Austin told the House he was "beyond disappointed" that Afghan forces offered little resistance in areas that were seized by the Taliban in recent days, a member who was on the call told Fox News.

After reflecting on the years of investing in training and equipping the Afghan army, Austin said, "You can’t buy willpower, and you can’t buy leadership," the member said.

I don't know what is more disgusting. Milley & Austin whining it's the other guys fault like 5 year old school girls, or, the fact that a gangof8 member of Congress blabbed this to the media.

It’s almost incomprehensible how incompetent our military leadership has become.

Them acting surprised and caught off guard by this is SICKENING.

Did they not see what happened in Iraq when ISIS rose to power?

We had more faith in Afghanis than Iraqis?

As always, they never assume any responsibility for anything. Blame the Afghan army, blame whitey, blame Trump, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Go stick your head in a bucket of crap!

Because the Secretary of Defense and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff have no honor or integrity. They are both cowards.

What were you expecting?

The commanding general for US Forces-Iraq during the 2011 debacle is now Secretary of Defense.

Trillions of dollars spent, and 20 years alongside them, you should have probably known how much willpower they didn't have before you withdrew while 10k Americans were stranded.
