Startpage.com as an additional search engine option.

I’ve been looking into these options.

Something to consider is that ProtonMail is hosted on their servers in Europe, making anything sent/received open to NSA surveillance without a FISA warrant.

I’m sure Gmail backs up servers over international boundaries, but with ProtonMail you know you’re opening that door.

You forgot the big one, Android.

Only real option is Apple, which is built in China who is spying on errybody.

Most Android phones can run custom ROMs like lineage.

You have no choice with Apple.

I won't say most. Increasingly, Android phones ship with locked bootloaders and such devices cannot be rooted or have a custom rom installed.

How does one accomplish this?

It works great too. You can also have an admin account that can access all of your employee's emails.

True, and Apple isn't exactly a bastion of conservatism. The question is more along the lines of if something is baked into the Android cake provided by Google that it takes a custom rom to eliminate or if getting rid of select APKs is sufficient.

I'm using Brave right now. This should really be on the Tech board.

This also defeats the purpose of de-Googling because you’re still using their servers for the mail even if you’re using your own domain name for the address.

That would have been a great reply if I had not said that I couldn't de-google and someone hadn't asked how to use Gmail as your mail server.

going to be a very slow process but I started today. Migrated all my browser data to Firefox and deleted Chrome on all devices.

Next is to figure out Google Photo's where I have 100gbs of Photo's and videos.

Mail is the obvious big one.

edit I think I found an option with amazon prime

Not arguing with you, was further clarifying for those who may not understand how it works. I also hadn’t seen that you’d said almost exactly that.

Mine is currently setup the same way because I haven’t yet found a better functioning alternative.

Most come locked but it takes 5 minutes to get the unlock token from the manufacturer.

So Google is still saving and indexing every email you send and receive.

Google search is far superior to any other. Can not switch. Have stopped paying extra for my longtime gmail acct tho and will let it die in the next year
