When the national anthem is being played on your TV during sporting events, how many of you will stop eating, talking, and sitting on your sofas and stand to give honor to the country? If you don't (and I bet that's the vast majority) and are against those protesting, wouldn't that be considered being hypocritical?

No. I'm not on the clock when I'm on my couch and the nation's eyes aren't on me.

Are the players paid to respect the national Anthem?

I think the whole thing is so stupid and a distraction from real issues and problems. Why devote brain space to a ceremonious gesture?

About as often as when i don't bow my head when watching tv and some guy says "lets pray". I'm pretty sure God doesn't hold it against me either.

I'll take credit for my nachos comment earlier. 50% of the take sounds about right.

Should only do this is you have a flag visible in your living room or den, which i do. So yes, I do stand at attention when I hear the national anthem come through my TV.

Not but the NFL and the owners could put a stop to the kneeling, if they wanted to. That's why people are talking about boycotting the NFL.

Personally, I don't like the kneeling but there are certainly bigger fish to fry.

Standing over someone's casket at a funeral and saying a prayer is also a ceremonious gesture. Would you go up to the casket and start singing and dancing like a fool, or would you be solemn out of respect?

There aren't cameras broadcasting my response to the anthem across the nation. I'm not making a political statement.

So if the team's owners are ok with the protest, would you be?

Eta: not pointed at you directly, but I have heard this line from a few people today.

No. Their opinion doesn't influence mine. But I think the owners are able to say "stand or sit in the locker room." If I felt strongly enough about it, I guess I could always boycott the NFL hoping enough people did the same to sway the owner's stance. But there are more important things to be concerned with, IMO.

I can understand people not standing at attention with their hands over their hearts while watching the anthem played on TV or listening on the radio. It's not a scenario that is specifically addressed in flag code as far as I'm aware, but I think it's a good policy to do something different when it's being played, even if it's stopping a conversation for the duration of the anthem.
