On this date in 1954, the USSR, aka, the Soviet Union, officially submitted a request…

…to become a member of NATO.

NATO declined the request on the basis that NATO was founded in order to counter the Soviet Union’s goal of conquering the rest of Europe which it did not already control.

Also on this date in 1991, the Republic of Georgia of the USSR formally declared its independence from the Soviet Union which triggered the dissolution of the Warsaw Pact and ultimately the breakup of the “Evil Empire,” as Renaldo Maximus (President Ronald Reagan) called the Soviet Union 8 years earlier in a speech.

It’s the same empire that Volodya Putin is now attempting to re-establish.

I don’t care.

I have more than enough to worry about on the home front.

You sound like all of the “adults” I listened to in 2001 when the US invaded Afghanistan (edited).

You have to be right “this time”, correct?

I mean, we didn’t waste lives and capital in the ME, did we?

Yea, thought so.

If you want my support for more US intervention, go back in time and convince everyone to not spend 20+ years in the ME, wasting lives and my trust in the US government.

Until then, I could not care less.

Russia as a NATO member is an oxymoron. Russia’s values and goals are completely counter to the NATO charter.

The US invaded Iraq in 2003, not 2001.

Afghanistan was 2001.

Fine.

There goes my entire point.

It’s like correcting a grammar error.

I’ll state my point again.

You morons sound exactly the same as the people who screamed to high heaven that we should invade the ME.

EXACTLY the same.

Clearly, you must be right this time.

2001 and 2003 were just “errors”. You definitely weren’t wrong then.

20 years, an incalculable amount of capital, and 7000 US lives.

There was nothing wrong there. Not at all.

This time, definitely this time, it is super serious.

Serious question. Is it reasonable for Russia to want a buffer between itself and NATO countries?

Serious question. When is the last time a NATO country invaded Russia?

By attacking a peaceful neighbor and killing tens of thousands of their civilians in the process to achieve that "buffer"?

That is NOT reasonable nor acceptable.

But I don’t think we wasted anything. The purpose of all of that was to hound Al Qaeda so they could not strike the USA again. It seems to have worked very well..

Over the last 500 years Russia gets invaded every 40 years on average

Russians are always worried people are out to get them

Its understandable Putin doesnt like NATO on all his western borders

Perfect GIF. That lying SOB-POS. With a government full of Brennans, Sullivan's, Jarrett's, Rice's, Nuland's, Schumer and Schift's et. al., maybe we really are the bad guys. LOL.

I mean, those are some of the worst scum to ever be behind the power that once was a great country.

Besides we are told every day that Russia has lost half its army, navy and air force. Keep funding Ukraine, they tell us. I can't trust much from either side on this BS.

If Russia has lost what the claims are, and maybe so, How the hell is Russia going to invade eastern Europe and ignite WW3 when they have allegedly lost so much armor, jets and infantry? Pretty laughable to even suggest it.

That's the Euro's problem.

Our country has been carrying them for well over 100 years now. WWI, WWII...Marshall Plan, Cold War, Reagan brought them down in the 1980s with the 'arms race'

They have been using our defense system for way too long to support their welfare states.

Our country is facing a debt bomb of over 34 Trillion dollars, a wave of retirement benefits and medical expenses that we have NO WAY of paying.

Both our northern and southern borders are intentionally being flooded with third-worlders who are sucking the money out of ordinary Americans.

The Rooskies and Uke have been warring with each for nearly a thousand years. Same with most of the other Euro countries.

Our Republic is on shaky ground and I am afraid we may lose it in the next 15-20 years.

And your posts are perfect examples of "whataboutisms."

You use completely unrelated situations which occurred more than two decades ago to refute that Putin is a murderous thug intent on reestablishing the Soviet Union and dominating the entirety of Europe which would be tragic for a billion people and would be an existential threat to our way of life.

That's what I mean by "ignorance on your part." Disgusting, dangerous ignorance.
