As always, actions have consequences. Let's keep liberalizing those laws.

seems to me that corporate capitalism is to blame. letting the big pharm markets be "free", and liberally throwing painkillers at patients causing the opioid epidemic.

I dont understand drug tests, employers expect workers to come in not drunk, why can't they smoke a joint at home? Alcohol is a much worse drug

because you cant test to see if someone is currently high and therefor cant prove if theyre smoking on their break.

Good point... Does the factory owner require breathalyzer tests each morning? Doesn't sound like it.

Immigrant workers are doing well for Russia because they are sober. And they work really cheap under harsh conditions.

This is a really interesting article from the NYT.

Doctors are throwing painkillers at patients.

Pharm is throwing kickbacks at doctors while patients are paying for office visits to get said pills

Medicaid and Medicare footing a large part of the bill as well

No one demonizes legal immigrants and legal immigration.
It's the foreign invaders people like me have a problem with.

You are for open borders?

Option 1: Use a cheek swab test to detect recent use

Option 2: Raise your wages to attract more applicants

Option 3: Bitch in the newspaper about how it's the workers' fault

Also add... that poppy production is at an all time high in Afghanistan.

Does anyone think those 19 dams built in Afghanistan by the US Army Corps of Engineers was based on and funded for thirsty people? Wake up.

Plenty of work in West Texas/SE NM. There are not enough applicants that can pass drug tests.

Well, according to the majority of the bunch here, it's the fault of everyone else ('big pharma,' doctors who simply force those opioids on the patients, the government, the military, employers offering 'low' wages, etc) except those poor applicants who can't go through life without being high on something. That kind of regressive logic is what's wrong to begin with!

Now we're getting somewhere in this discussion. Let's apply that statement across the board.

Religion, entitlements, volunteerism, patriotism... Shall I keep going?

There's no airquotes to this. Supply and demand works both ways.

you don't have a job

you get hungry everyday & your parents are sick of feeding you

OR

you want to be able to feed your kids every day

all you have to do to get a job is not smoke weed for 30 days

GO!

If that's a logic puzzle, I don't get it.

What does volunteering and patriotism have to do with the inability of employers to hire sober applicants? Or with blaming everyone and everything for the problem except those who choose to live high, drunk, whatever.

It's not a logic puzzle. It's a statement on the valuable point you brought up. Regressive Logic. It applies to many things, not just increased drug use.

Slow down Sweetheart. No one is looking for a fight just because you want one.

“The difficult part about marijuana is, we don’t have an affordable test that tells me if they smoked it over the weekend or smoked it in the morning before they came to work. And I just can’t take the chance of having an impaired worker running a crane carrying a 300,000-pound steel encasement,” she said.

It seems testing is the problem, not the use.

And I'd much prefer a small factory owner in Ohio having trouble hiring a few people than continuing to pump money into the prison industry to house nonviolent minor drug offenders.
