Yeah he tanked in the last week. I don't know what happened, but I don't expect him to win.

It's anecdotal, but in reading/listening to foreign news services' interviews of Dutch citizens this week and last, there was a lot of (obviously summarizing) "I'm not supporting Wilders but I think he's on to something...I'm just not quite buying it overall yet."

Plus I think there is too much EU fondness.

They're not going to have that four years from now but by then it will be too late as the current immigration crisis is not sustainable for another four years and the establishment will double down on their bullshite to make sure someone like Wilders never challenges them again.

They had a chance for reforms and to gain control of their borders peacefully without much violence and bloodshed.

Now it's going to get really really ugly.

You plan on putting an update and link to the Republican Chair of the House Intelligence Committee calling out Trump's lies?

Link please? Thanks.

The populist parties may be losing in places like Austria and the Netherlands, but these countries are still doing things like shutting down Erdogan events and establishing unilateral immigration reforms. The immigration message is getting through -- they just don't want the whole package that comes with European populism.

I just think Wilders (someone like him) has more appeal in France or Germany right now than in Holland.

As for Dutch fondness for the EU -- they were one of the founding members and they have greatly benefitted from peaceful economic cooperation between France, Germany, and (until now) the UK. The Netherlands is one of the biggest winners of the EU experiment. Why wouldn't they be "fond" of it?

Then why is the AfD and and Frauke Petry losing to Schulz?

I agree. They want the pragmatic measures without the rhetoric and wholesale populist reform, would be my guess/estimation.

The Dutch don't have general elections every four years. In fact, they occur at irregular intervals (e.g. the last one was 2012 and 2010 before that). I'm not sure what "triggers" them.
