did you read the articles posted?

is that a no? ok, then shut up.

I read the articles and they are opinion pieces. You think Putin gives a shyte what some op-ed writers are saying? Putin knows Europe will continue to buy Russia's NG and laughs at their outrage.

They speak of the pressure Putin is facing abroad and domestically. These articles themsleves arent the pressure, and i seriously doubt Putin reads them.

Either way - sorry your hero isnt flawless afterall.

The Putin fellators are in denial at this point.

You couldn't frick up worse than Putin has (coming off the success of the Winter Olympics) if you you tried. Seriously. A monkey would have done better.

Um no Putin will do what ever he wants. His belief system and convictions really doesn't care what others say and do. The issue is he doesn't see how much he is hurting his own people and neither do they.

Funny the US managed to stand up to and finally defeat the USSR. Reagan was able to install Pershing Missiles in Europe despite a massive KGB coordinated protest movement, putting enormous pressure on European leaders. Reagan was able to build a coalition, and keep it united.

What should be done? Don't let Putin drag this thing out, hiding behind an investigation. We know that Russia is responsible. We should privately tell Putin what will be done, if he doesn't begin to de-escalate the conflict. It's highly unlikely that he will give up the Crimea, but we may be able to contain his gains, and actually have him pull back.

Lay out all the evidence of Russian culpability before the UN. Photos, radio intercepts, etc.

Provide the Ukrainians with conventional weapons, not just MREs.
Place missile defense systems in Poland and the Czech Republic.
Put NATO troops in Poland and further east if possible.
Put even more stringent sanctions on Russian financial transactions, in London. Pressure the French to cancel military sales to the Russians. Announce long term agreements with Germany and other Russian customers of fuel to work on new sources of energy.

Make Russia as much of an international pariah as possible.

Putin is not some omniscient presence. He probably has internal enemies, who would be more than happy to see him fall. He hasn't exactly shown himself to be a political genius. All he's proven is that he's a bully who will go as far as you let him.

I posted this on the OT but this is the best way to sum up a Putin lead country.

The ruble isn't worth the paper its printed on.

The country's educated and wealthy are leaving.

Foreign investors are thinking twice.

Its death rate and life expectancy are alarmingly bad.

Russia is one of the ultimate handouts countries in the world with its people needing money from their gov't.

Russia was so desperate to increase its population due to it shrinking so fast they opened up their borders to all ex soviet countries to move there.

Id rather have Obama in charge than Putin. At least we can speak our displeasure about Obama. If we did so under a Putin lead government we would end up missing.

I lived through it. I know what happened. I don't know how old you are, but it was Reagan who finally forced the USSR over, after years of a mostly United Western Front against the Soviets.

On all the rest we'll just have to see won't we. The European and the US are meeting this week. Let's see what they come up with.

You think Putin is invincible? Don't you think he has enemies internally?

And why not help out the Ukrainians with conventional weapons? You're ok with the Russians running roughshod over them, and anyone else who gets in the way of their quest to restore the Soviet Union?

Typo. Omitted the word "more".

The point of my original post is that an aggressive Putin was a foregone conclusion once he saw a weakened Bush, and a President who is silly enough to send over a Re-Set button and draw shifting Red Lines in the sand . How do you think Mr Tough Guy reacted to that?

Our choice was Romney or Obama not Obama and Putin. Obama is so horrible you have to make our choice between Barry and a dictator? Yes Romney would have been miles better than Obama, but keep measuring Obama against tyrants in a futile attempt to make him look better.

That was one of the factors but the USSR was just not able to sustain its self throwing that along with the people in other countries they tried to wipe out standing up for themselves.

No but Putin is just does not care and has been known to have his enemies fall off the face of the earth.

Yes since proxy wars work out so great esp for our Gov't.

If Romney was president Putin would have done the same shite. His ideology does not care what other world leaders think. He does what he thinks is best for Russia and he believes in restoring the Russian Empire. To think if we had someone else in officer this would not happen is just silly.

To think the USSR collapsed solely due to the Reagan administration is lol and I like Reagan.

Where did I ever say solely? Reagan was the one who actually dared to believe that the USSR could be defeated. He stood on the shoulders of Truman and others who sought to contain them.

But he was the one who threw away the theory of MAD, and decided they could be beaten. Of course none of this happened in a vacuum. The Pope, Solidarity, Margaret Thatcher, Solzhenitsyn, the Refuseniks, and many others contributed. A mistake the Soviets made was the attempted assassination of the Pope. That really damaged them. Sound familiar? And the Politburo makes Putin look like a piker.

As far as Saban. He'll bring a plan. But does he bring a Quarterback?

GTG. Need to figure out what I'm going to burn for supper.
