Agreed. Quote below is Obama speaking to the Illinois AFL-CIO, June 30, 2003.
quote:
A single payer health care plan, a universal health care plan. And that’s what I’d like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we have to take back the White House, we have to take back the Senate, and we have to take back the House.”
Of course they didn't let a little thing like losing the Senate in 2010 stop them did they?

Single payer will come because Wal-Mart, Exxon-Mobil, Microsoft, McDonald's, Subway etc would love to not have to provide health insurance. They want to save hundreds of millions and even billions of dollars they spend on Human Resources and benefits managers and the time they have to spend on explaining their policies and options.
The costs of the universal coverage will be spread out as a tax. Instead of paying premiums we pay a tax. Those of you who complain about the taxes with for national health insurance realize that we do pay a tax via our premiums and we pay a hidden tax in our bills and in our co-pays.
You capitalists who who hate socialism have to realize that the big corporations want to get out of the health insurance hassle and private insurance companies will be contracted to be our national health care providers.
it's that simple really.

man, the number of paying customers is decreasing, not new enrollments.
So take issue with the title of thread, not the post response.

The number of enrolled hasn't shrunk. The number of paying customers have. You can't assume that the number of paying customers would increase or remain static even if enrollment were open all year. Get it?
Same goes for you. Take issue with the OP and thread title. You are criticizing liberal posters for obvious reasons

quote:Folks who were not qualified (illegals, etc) were initially allowed to enroll, albeit for a few months under the auspices they could prove qualifications. It created a falsely high initial enrollment statistic. When (predictably) these enrollees couldn't qualify, they were kicked off the plan.
Why would there be shrinkage? If it was worth a shite then people wouldn't drop out after only a few months of having insurance.

I've seen no evidence that this is happening on any scale.

What about good' old common sense? Sometimes that is more time efficient than scouring the internet for facts/evidence:
Some on this site have admitted to enroll in on the exchange just to see what they qualified for, or to see how much cheaper insurance for them might be.

quote:I wonder how many dropped out after their medical issue was taken care of and how many dropped out because they realized it wasn't "free"?
The nation's third-largest health insurer had 720,000 people sign up for exchange coverage as of May 20, a spokesman confirmed to IBD. At the end of June, it had fewer than 600,000 paying customers. Aetna expects that to fall to "just over 500,000" by the end of the year.

The poster posited that illegals were enrolled for insurance and then found not to qualify. I'm not aware we're taking unqualified people off of insurance. I don't know there is even a mechanism to do so. So, I'm using my common sense to question an assertion which is based upon nothing concrete.

Yeah I know THEY want it, and why the politicians in their pockets want it.

Say what? You can't say that because something is replaced with a tax that it was itself a tax all along. Of course you CAN say that because you're a communist, but it's not true.
Also, the amount of increased tax a regular joe like me pays for single payer may be more or less than what I pay for insurance now, but it will for absolute certain be for a lower quality of care. You know that as well as I do.

How so? Did not know you could remove them for anything other than lack of payment. Pre-existing conditions isn't one of them.
Plus, it was a numbers game anyway with the rollout. Sign up as many people as you can so they can say "see? Look how many new insured we have as a result of ACA".
