Citations for traffic violations fell by 94 percent, from 10,069 to 587, during that time frame. Summonses for low-level offenses like public drinking and urination also plunged 94 percent — from 4,831 to 300. Even parking violations are way down, dropping by 92 percent, from 14,699 to 1,241. Drug arrests by cops assigned to the NYPD’s Organized Crime Control Bureau — which are part of the overall number — dropped by 84 percent, from 382 to 63.
I can't say I disagree with a lot of that, if it wasn't the result of a tantrum, but it looks to me like they aren't doing their jobs. Is the poliboard cool with this? What if they start doing this with violent crime? LINK

With all of the crimes listed? Yes.

The NYPD Benevolent Society called for the NYPD cops to go into "wartime mode". No arrests or citations unless absolutely necessary. This happened back in the 70s also, as I recall. This appears to be a measure just short of all out Blue Flu.

Sounds like police are no longer arresting people for offenses that shouldn't even be crimes in the first place. As long as they're still responding to property crimes and violent crimes, I'm perfectly ok with this.

Seems to me like that's where they'll have to draw the line if they don't want to lose public opinion. I wonder if they're aware they're doing exactly what a lot of protestors wanted in the first place? I wonder what kind of affect this has on violent crime, if any? They may undermine their own position of broken windows if it doesn't spike.

Appropriate? Maybe not. Human? Yep.

I mean hey. If doing your routine job could result in your life being turned upside down if you make ANY errors and you and your family literally become a target to a significant subset the population, your motivation to deal with petty shite is probably going to go down.

It sounds like the NYPD is putting their efforts where they really need to be which is violent crime and property crime.

If violent crime doesn't spike as a result, absolutely.

If they stop harassing New Yorkers over petty shite, and they get used to it, and violent crime doesn't go up, the impact on public opinion could be huge. The whole justification for prosecuting petty crimes is to discourage an atmosphere of lawlessness that leads to violent crime. That doesn't happen, and they've undermined the need for much of their workforce.

This. If I had to make a prediction, I would predict that violent crime will remain flat or decline in the short term and fall in the long term in such an environment.

This action has one main objective it's the thing that will get the most attention.

MONEY is what drives everything.

Shutting down the income coming into the city courthouses by way of fines.

Very smart move actually.

The policicans will be begging for them to pick the pace back up as the money runs out.

Nobody saves more black lives than NYPD, and unfortunately, that's about to change. Also, look for some Italians to make the move from North Jersey back to the City.

I really hope it doesn't end up being a financial decision.
