shite is quickly coming to a tipping point...

While I don't agree with the looting and arson in Fergusson, the heavy handed police response to reporters and peaceful protestors is being shown to the American public who have kept their heads in the sand.

uhhh, actually, us liberals have been complaining about heavy handed police tactics for decades now. Righties only became concerned about them when Obama took office (strange, huh?)

My only issue with this deal is that the criminal is still alive. He has a lengthy rap sheet and they were looking for him from a crime last week. Serpas' crew needs more time at the gun range.

Sorry - they only became concerned about the abuses of state and local police when Obama took office. Strangely enough.

Not really sure how enforcing custody is abuse, though. I'm pretty sure if your son wound up in Cuba with his mother dead you'd want him home.

Katrina, "no knock" warrants deaths of innocent people in Georgia, school search and seizures...

c'mon man this has been going on for 30+ years. Where we can agree, lets try to agree. Otherwise things will never get done.

It will be interesting to see what happens with this. By all accounts the man shot was unarmed, the officer who fired the shots was the one that issued the warrents for his arrest and had an a "fight"(Serpas word) with the victim/suspect two days earlier.

quote:

Campbell asserted that Bennett and his brother claim there was no physical altercation before the first shot was fired. That first shot, which struck Bennett, prompted him to run to his relative's house nearby, Campbell said, adding that the brothers allege the officer fired the second shot while Bennett was fleeing.

"There was no scuffle with the officer," she said. "They were ordered at gunpoint to get out of the car and that's what they were doing."

Serpas said it was too early in the investigation to comment on "what the attorney thinks."

You really think the swat was needed? If so, then you're ignoring the root cause.

This should be the end of Serpas, IMO. Mitch clearly doesn't have the backbone to do what needs to be done, at least get a police chief in that will. Serpas is a fake lackey.

A lot more people will have to be dying for that to happen. I know it would make you giddy with joy.

If you're hoping for a full blown race riot in NOLA, you'll probably have to wait a while. The city hasn't had one since Reconstruction, when a band of white thugs brutally murdered a group of blacks and their political supporters.

Thats what the officer is claiming, but its kind of hard to take an officers gun when he is seated in a vehicle. No doubt there was an altercation with the officer in the car and him outside, but its hard to justify 5-7 shots after the kid takes off running.

It won't be. The guy's a buffoon. His basic police philosophy seems to be 1) harass street musicians 2) that will cause a drop in murders.

I think the checkerboard nature of NO neighborhoods lessens the racial tension that is present in so many other cities. Not saying it doesn't exist, but not nearly as bad.
