Seems like another under-the-radar EO. We'll see where Devos and company go from here. I have my concerns about Devos, as we all do with the DoE, but I'm thinking this is a step in the right direction or, at the very least, a counter-move by Trump to send a message to the Common Core lobbyists and their friends.

quote:

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday that directed U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to review federal regulations that infringe upon state and local governments’ ability to enact education policy at the level closest to the American people. “The executive order I’m signing today is another critical step to restoring local control, which is so important,” Trump said in his remarks at the signing of the Education Federalism Executive Order. “This executive order directs Secretary DeVos to review current federal regulations and ensure that they don’t obstruct the ability of states, local governments, teachers, and most importantly, parents, to make the best decisions for their students and, in many cases, for their children.” The order states the education secretary “shall, as appropriate and consistent with applicable law, rescind or revise” any regulations or guidance documents “that are identified…as inconsistent with statutory prohibitions.” The secretary has 300 days to perform the review of regulations. The president continued: Previous administrations have wrongfully forced states and schools to comply with federal whims and dictate what our kids are taught. But we know that local communities do it best and know it best. The time has come to empower parents and teachers to make the decisions that help their students achieve success. That’s what this executive order is all about. So important.

Because its just another in his list of meaningless EOs that ask for a review, study, create a commission for an issue but really do nothing.

Oh something will get done in terms of returning power to the states. And then the NYT will declare that it will destroy education. You leftists can't have it both ways. You can't say 'X' by Trump does nothing and then say 'X' by Trump is destroying the country. The two positions are contradictory.

Dumb dumb, that is what Executive Orders are supposed to do. They are supposed to direct agencies under executive authority in how to handle their respective responsibilities. They are not supposed to be laws.

You are still looking at things through the traditional political lense. President Trump doesn't want to say all the right things to endear himself to his base, but do nothing. He wants to actually do something.

First, liberals say it's a meaningless review. Then when he introduces a plan of action to actually fix education, they'll scream and call him nuts. "WHAT? He can't be serious! We can't let the people decide what's best for themselves!"

Couldn't he have just sent Devos an email telling her to review federal regulations?

Oh right, he has to make it an executive order so the lemmings keep believing he's actually achieving something.

Remember when Trump was against Obama signing Exectuive Orders :

quote:

"I don't think he even tries anymore. I think he just signs executive actions," Trump said of Obama, before pointing to the U.S. government system of checks and balances. "That's the way the system is supposed to work. And then all of a sudden, I hear he tried, he can't do it, and then, boom, and then another one, boom," Trump said.

Really? I'm pretty sure a lot of Trumpkins want his EO's to be direct laws. See the backlash from the blocking of his immigration EOs.

He's doing nothing but acting like he doing stuff. Because most people don't take the time to read the EO they don't know that it's just political fluff that doesn't actually do anything.

And they'll be right.

If the plan is nuts then they'll be justified in calling him nuts. See the healthcare atrocity is tried to push through.

Yeah. Why would a president want more information and data? His EOs only request more info...what a do-nothing loser.

No problem with this. Acting like you are solving a problem when all you are doing is asking for a review is misleading.

Yeah see that's why the judges who ruled the way they did should be tried for treason and executed.

Congress has CLEARLY passed laws allowing the President to temporarily halt immigration from certain countries, so therefor Trump issuing an EO directing agencies to actually do so, is NOT making new law it is simply telling agencies to enforce existing law.

As opposed to say DACA , which no law gave Obama the authority to do.

If you can't understand the difference, you are stupid and the world would be a better place without you. If you understand the difference but won't admit to it because of political reasons, you are stupid and the world would be better off without you.
