No more CIA support for anti-Assad rebels

How does the TD poli board feel about this one? Syria is so fricked up that I would feel silly acting like I know what the best move would be. This WaPo article is heavy on the "it's what Putin wanted" angle so I'd hope Trump got something in return if that's true.

Anti-assad rebels aren't much better than assad.
The only group we should be arming are kurds.

No doubt we should be further supporting the Kurds IMO. It's a double f'ing - Assad and Turkey at the same time.

Because, we've been so good at deposing rulers of late.

Well, the left is pathetic that way.
I mean hell. Even Hitler probably wanted a few things that were good ideas.
Did supporting those ideas mean you also wanted to gas millions of Jews?
The whole, "well, that bad guy agrees with you on X" argument is dumb.
Oh. And I support and I supported before Trump was a gleam in the nation's political eye.
Putting the people of Syria through a heinous war so that they can replace Satan with Lucifer seems rather dumb.

If the Demohawks and neoconservatives oppose this, that makes it a good idea. Stop the warmongering and meddling in conflicts in which we have no business being involved.

Doesn't ISIS fall into that category? Which group was McCain rubbing elbows with? Which group was getting the weapons that the CIA was mustering in Benghazi?

Why would any group that we intend to provide covert assistance to ever trust us again?
Putin's adoration and affection.
Well, and maybe that other thing.

Good.
Assad needs to be back in power. He's the best of the bad choices.

Read Wikileaks. The Washington Post was given almost $600 million by the CIA for purposes of fluff pieces and propaganda. One of its editorial writers, Ed Rogers, is a lobbyist for Raytheon, and has used the paper's blog and editorial page to shill for war with Syria, all the while the paper refused to disclose that Rogers was a lobbyist for a company who made the very tomahawk missiles we would be using in Syria. The Washington Post is a part of America's war machine. They don't care about what is best for this country. They care about what is best for American defense contractors and the intelligence establishment.

Who in their right mind would trust the US government to begin with given our foreign policy decisions over the last 50 years? And why again should the U.S be providing aid to anyone in a multifaceted civil war where all parties appear to be bad guys?

Truth is treason in an empire of lies. Are you one of the Dems who used to be anti war when Bush was President yet now want war with Russia and regime change in Syria?

I love how the media and the left push a narrative of "if Putin favors it, it must be bad for us." That's a totally false premise and only serves to perpetuate the policy of perpetual US/Russian animus.
The notion that supporting rebel factions in Syria against Assad is fundamentally in our national interests because it opposes Russian interests is hogwash.

Good. We should stay out of Syria as much as possible, with the exception of dropping bombs on ISIS.
Every regime change in the Middle East that the US had a role in has backfired on us. Let Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and the other Arab countries deal with their own problems instead of having the US doing their dirty work for them.

Oh look another avowed libertarian that can't help but to push the Kremlin line. Muh globalism, muh USA does it too, etc. I've heard it all before.

This must be the directive that Putin gave Drumpf in their super secret second dinner meeting.
Posted on 7/19/17 at 3:15 pm to UnclassyStudent
I've been suspicious of "anti-Assad" rebels since way before I received my orders from the Kremlin to be suspicious.
It's likely we were doing more to help ISIS than anybody else in the region previously. I felt that way a long time before WaPo wrote this stupid "muh Russians" article.

Us libertarians are the only faction in American politics that have been consistently opposed to military intervention in the post 9-11 era. Your kind are hypocrites and your party is being taken over by neoconservative warmongers. How that death and destruction squares with social justice and tolerance is beyond me.

I agree with this. I disagreed with our strikes against Assad, (which Trump ordered) and I have my doubts about the chemical weapons videos because of the source.
