More power to them.

Not one more cent of US tax dollars should be pumped into a sinking ship.

If we don't fight Hamas over there, we'll have to fight them over here. Also, Iran is the "largest state sponsor of terrorism". Never mind that they're Shia and that our terrorist adversaries have always been Sunni Wahhabists.

Too late. They are pouring across our border.

Aid to any of them should be in the form of old military hardware that we're cycling out anyway. Cash is bullshite.

Israel gets aid in regular appropriations bills too, so that isn't all they get.

My proposal is zero to either. If they want to buy arms we should sell them but the days of money giveaways is over.

We owe trillions.

Yep, totally agree, but Congress acts like little kids with $100 in a candy store!!

Along with the $61 billion for Ukraine, the bills would allocate more than $26 billion for Israel ....That includes $9.2 billion in humanitarian aid for civilian-packed Gaza.....
The package also provides $8 billion for self-ruled Taiwan

Johnson had refused to let (the previous senate) $95 billion package through, as Republicans wrangled over Biden's immigration policies.

61+26+8 = 95 Billion and still no immigration law enforcement.

It's complex, but there are a handful of thoughts that play into my lack of support for Ukraine. I do have plenty of sympathy for the people there and do wish they weren't going through what they are, but America does not have the money to support an issue that is not our issue while simultaneously ignoring our own issues here at home.

If we can just pile on billions of more debt to launder money into Ukranian corruption, why can't Ukraine just take on the debt themselves?

I could at least entertain Trump's proposal that aid be provided in the form of a loan that everyone knows the next liberal administration would just forgive anyway after the ext whoever administration allows forbearance

Let's see here......

1. Ukraine
2. Israel
3. Taiwan

Joe Biden schemes for war and profit. Donald Trump schemes for Peace and Prosperity.

It's that simple.

That is Bush's program. Biden is just trying to take credit for it.

And border? Our border?

quote:

Republican leaders published the bills Wednesday proposing to split foreign aid into four separate bills focusing on Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan. A fourth bill is expected later in the day focusing on other defense measures to “strengthen our national security.” The legislation comes after months of disagreement between both parties on how to provide foreign aid, leaving Congress at a standstill.

Johnson informed Republican lawmakers the bills would be brought to the floor under an open amendment process, allowing members to propose additional measures before a final vote.

The four bills will be paired together under a single rules package before being brought to the floor later this week for individual votes. After that, the surviving votes will be packaged together into a single piece of legislation and be sent to the Senate.

The package includes a $26.38 billion package for Israel; a $60.84 trillion package for Ukraine, and $8.12 billion to go toward Taiwan. The proposal also includes a fourth bill that would combine a number of other national security measures, including legislation to force China to divest in TikTok as well as the REPO Act, a proposal to seize frozen Russian assets and transfer them to the Ukrainian government to fight against the Kremlin.

Johnson also informed lawmakers there would be a separate bill coming to the floor this week that would focus solely on border security after threats from some House lawmakers to shoot down the measure if those provisions were not included.

It’s not entirely clear what the border bill will entail as the text has not yet been published, but Johnson said it would include “core components” of H.R. 2, Republicans’ signature border bill that passed the House last year but has since been stalled in the Senate.

All five of the bills are expected to be debated throughout the week, with a final vote on Saturday evening.

Under typical House procedure, a bill is brought to the floor under a rule that must be approved by lawmakers before it can be debated or voted on. A rule is historically passed along party lines and rarely fails on the House floor. However, House conservatives have weaponized the procedure several times over the last year, tanking key pieces of legislation and stalling action on the floor.

It is in a separate bill which will be released later this afternoon or tonight.

The bipartisan border bill is ready for a vote. Johnson refused to even allow debate because Trump wanted to promote chaos at the border. They should bring it up for a vote too.
