Interesting article centering on Harvey Gulf agreeing to stay in NOLA proper based on assurances from new Gov Landry that the adults are coming to take over for the imbecile children now running the city.

Curious, I have not heard anything. From Teedy on the Gov and his bullying ways.

quote:

Guidry, the co-chair of Landry’s transition committee and a major donor, said he is working with the governor-elect on potential measures that could be implemented, including increased state trooper presence in the city and a judicial component.

Basically it sounds like the State Police is going to set up shop and patrol the CBD and French Quarter because the Mayor is inept.

I mean NOPD has issues, but LSP is a cesspool of corruption, good ole boys, and a literal constant flow of controversies.

I would guess he means the AG will prosecute cases the DA refuses to, but I’m not sure.

That’s correct, but NOPD has been significantly understaffed since Katrina. There is certainly room for coooperation and supplementation of resources in the heart of the city. Tourism, conventions and events, as well as downtown businesses all need better protection and control. This isn’t necessarily bad, and probably a good thing if done properly.

Maybe something like Mississippi is doing with Jackson?

I hope he has success in this endeavor. Crime in NOLA needs to be brought under control.

Oh I get that it's primarily a manpower issue, but LSP is also the outfit that murdered Ronald Greene, only to have LSP and JBE cover it up.

Interjecting that sort of bullshite into NO is going to lead to a lot of issues

Well, a usurpation of this nature will evoke a legal response from entrenched and corrupt bureaucrats. So, this must be anticipated lest the whole thing become an embarrassing folly for the new Governor. They better have their "Judicial" ducks in a line, as the Biden legal, long knives will come out.

So, in other words, your political allies’ strategy of “defunding the police” was an abysmal failure?

Sounds like he wants to to what the State of Mississippi did with the Capital complex in Jackson.

I don't think that is constitutional here, and, after reading up on it just now, doesn't seem like it would do much based on this article

quote:

Under a law signed by Republican Gov. Tate Reeves during the spring, the new court will come into existence Jan. 1 and will have jurisdiction in a part of Jackson that includes state government buildings and some residential and shopping areas.

Reeves and legislators who support the new court say it is part of an effort to control crime in Jackson — a city that has had more than 100 homicides for each of the past three years, in a population of about 150,000.

The Capitol Complex Improvement District Court will have the same power as municipal courts, which handle misdemeanor cases, traffic violations and initial appearances for some criminal charges. People convicted in most municipal courts face time in a local jail. Those convicted in the new court will be held in a state prison, near people convicted of more serious felony crimes.

A new traffic/minor misdemeanor court isn't going to do much for Nola felony/violent crime

The groomer that wants to defund the police must have logged into the wrong account for this reply.

The Bible and Shakespeare would be "word salad" to a lot of people, SF. "If the glove don't fit...you must acquit". More word salad.

I'd bring my kids to the French Quarter if there's a big state police presence there. Today with mostly NOLA police? frick that.
