No, I don't have the wrong board. For those unfamiliar with the book (2008 by Cixin Liu) and current Netflix Sci-Fi series, the opening scene concerns a flashback to Mao's Cultural Revolution of the late 60's and early 70's.

It's as honest and graphic a depiction of what took place during that time as I've seen appear in any show or movie.

So what? Because many of today's "leaders" in politics (Democrats) and education were young or college aged kids during this period. They have grown up to positions of power and still admire the effectiveness and brutality displayed by Mao's Red Guard.

The cult of the far Left is brazenly on display here and I can't help but notice the very same tactics being used in the US and the Western countries today. And especially, so do those who fled China recognize many of the same warning signs they saw 50 yrs ago.

Tearing down of established norms and ideas. Destruction of historic landmarks and culturally important lessons and stories. Questing "The Science". Basically, a scouring of the connective tissue which makes any society unique so that a 'new way' can be established.

What is worse, I think, is I didn't flinch. I know it's happened over, and over again. In the east and the west, for decades. Therefore I didn't react. But, nobody reacts to China, the UN, etc. now. How's Hong Kong doing since 2020 again? Uighurs? EU and their farmers? Statues in the US, including Jefferson?

I do watch each new episode of Shogun as soon as it rolls out, which should probably be telling to anyone that understands Japanese culture about my personality. I've watched and read an abnormal amount of material about China/North Korea/Japan/Russia/Holodomor/French...

Thing is, most of the general public, the "normies" who see the news, or watch movies and TV shows, don't grasp the no-so-subtle change and messaging that's taking place.

Like almost universally the flipping of established characters and narratives, without any explanation, where men are shoved aside for the generic Mary Sue character.

This goes well beyond 'bad writing'. Or story lines and plots that just happen to seem similar.

also...

"A dream, to some... A NIGHTMARE TO OTHERS!"

and

"When a man lies, he murders some part of the world..."

That's right. Merlin.
Not Cliff Burton.

I’m definitely missing context on this one.
