Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu flatly rejected calls for a cease-fire in comments to the press on Monday.
Netanyahu compared the October 7 massacre by Hamas to the Pearl Harbor and 9-11 attacks on the U.S., saying Israel is equally justified in retaliating against Hamas terrorists in Gaza. He went on to say that Israel will continue its war against Hamas "until victory."
"Calls for a cease-fire are calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorism, to surrender to barbarism. That will not happen," Netanyahu said.
"Ladies and gentlement, the Bible says that there is a time for peace and a time for war. This is a time for war. A war for our common future," he continued. "Today we draw a line between the forces of civilization and the forces of barbarism. It is a time for everyone to decide where they stand. Israel will stand against the forces of barbarism until victory. I hope and pray that civilized nations everywhere will back this fight."
Israeli forces entered the second stage of their conflict with Hamas this week, greatly expanding ground operations within the Gaza strip. Military officials have warned that the war will be long and difficult.

Good, now let them both go at it and I'll watch from over here.

Journalism sucks so bad. What are the conditions of the cease fire he rejected? Or is Netanyahu really saying there are no terms for cease fire he will accept?

This escapade defines FA & FO.
Maybe the Israeli's have not been just to the Palestinians. That said, Hamas sent armed militants into civilian areas and shot pedestrians, motorists and people sitting in cafes down like dogs.
I have no sympathy for the hell they created for themselves.

The only term should be unconditional surrender.

I agree. Is that what was offered? My complaint was on the weak reporting.

He's saying Israel has a mission to accomplish, and they haven't finished it yet so talks of ceasefire are premature.

It’s funny, the other day I was looking for that Pat Buchanan quote on the “amen corner” in Washington or whatever and came across a whole list of his “antisemetic” remarks compiled by the ADL. And like some of them were clearly antisemitic. But most of them were just Buchanan saying we shouldn’t go into Iraq just because it’s what Sharon and Likud want.
Like just obvious America first sentiments and he was vilified for them, and now every politician of consequence in both parties is lined up behind Netanyahu
quote:
Neocons say we attack them because they are Jewish. We do not. We attack them because their warmongering threatens our country, even as it finds a reliable echo in Ariel Sharon.”
quote:
Who would benefit from a war of civilizations between the West and Islam? Answer: one nation, one leader, one party. Israel, Sharon, Likud.”
quote:
Israel is in an existential crisis. It can wall itself off and annex what it wants on the West Bank, and leave Palestinians in tiny truncated, nonviable bantustans that will become the spawning pools of terror. Or it can give the Palestinians what Oslo, Camp David, Taba and the 'roadmap' promised; a homeland, a nation and a state of their own. Israel is free to choose. But American needs a Middle East policy made in the USA, not in Tel Aviv, or at AIPAC or AEI."

It was offered but Arafat rejected it.

Good. All of Israel's restraint and compromise has been used up over the last decades of this same shite. Time to end it.

I’ve just searched for and scanned multiple publications. All news sources are posting the same Netanyahu comment—in blog format—rather than unpacking what led to his response.
In his statement a minute ago, Netanyahu didn’t recap the terms of any proffered ceasefire. Based on reports thus far, I’m not convinced anyone (apart from Netanyahu and Hamas officials) knows what the terms were.
I feel you, tho, about the limited info.
