My imput on the distraction of N. O. By a clueless Mayor

You lied to Mr, Stewart when you told him you had "friends who were going to pay" for the removal. You lied to the best friend your family eve had.
1. The Statues were here before most people in the City, why did you move here?
2. Only a very small percentage of Southerners ownd slaves
3. When Lee surrendered his sword he owned no slaves, Grant owned 6. If you do not remove every American flag from the City you are a hypocrite
4. You Graduated from Jesuit High School, the Jesuits owned hundrds of slaves in the 1800s, are you closing Jesuit
5. W. T. Sherman was the first President of LSU, are you closing our school?? If not you are a hypocrite
6. How many Super Bowls, Bayou Classic, NBA games and NCAA events with the statues here
7. MLK was an adulterer, and preached racism, he lived a life the average black never lived.
8. T. Jefferson not even owned slaves but had sex and fathered several. I dare you to take his statue down.
9. As a Vietnam Veteran I respect every Veteran and you a clueless SOB, Confederate Soldiers were Veterans, you have disrespected all Veterans.
10. Every cloud has a silver lining, and our silver lining is you will never hold office again, join your clueless Sister

Here's the thing with Mitch and his statue-lust...
Mitch jumped onto the "It's Racist!" train when there was a kerfuffle about a Confederate flag flying over a state house. Being ever the opportunist Mitch had his "ME TOO! ME TOO!" moment when he proclaimed the statues as racist holdovers.
The Confederate flag issue faded but Mitch had already ingratiated himself to the more rabid of race-baiters in N'Awlins and now he was indebted to them. To add to that Mitch is term limited out of the Mayor's office next year so he needed something to put on his resume to appeal to Democracts for whatever political job he wants to run for next.
tl;dr - This never was nor will be about racism, it was about Mitch promoting himself once again at the taxpayer's expense.

The statues are to white sumpremacy and to losing generals. Put them in museums if tou want to keep them for historical purposes. They do not need to be public statues to celebrate losers and bad causes

This is not even debatable.
A lot of democrats I know that I went to school with even argue as such on my FB feed. He's truly lost them like how Jindal lost a lot of conservatives as his second term was winding down.

That's not strange at all. I guess you missed the WWII vets meeting Japanese vets or the stories of Vietnam vets delivering letters and mementos from men they killed to their widows. There are also countless stories of Northern & Southern soldiers meeting at battlefields to honor the fallen on both sides. Soldiers have respect for other soldiers, because they are the only ones who know the true hell of war.
