We published the dossier, which Ken Bensinger obtained through his characteristically ferocious reporting, so that, as we wrote, "Americans can make up their own minds about allegations about the president-elect that have circulated at the highest levels of the US government."
I'm reminded of Gilbert Gottfried's intro on the Bob Saget roast...
quote:
"Why should we be honoring A MAN WHO RAPED AND KILLED A GIRL IN 1990? First of all, it’s not true. It’s not true that BOB SAGET RAPED AND KILLED A GIRL IN 1990, so if you have no proof that BOB SAGET RAPED AND KILLED A GIRL IN 1990, then you shouldn’t be repeating it.”

Because you are crazy?
Is that the best you can do?

Its like a prosecutor in court being allowed to introduce a completely fabricated account of a woman being raped by a guy, and saying after the trial "Hey, I didn't say it was true. I just put it out there for the jury to make up their own minds about it."
It is exactly this. A prosecutor would be destroyed if he did anything close to this in the courthouse.
This may be a new low for journalism.
