Last I checked Ramadam is not an American Holiday/observance.

I don't need it to be.

So they disagree with the Holiday that thy base their objections on?
Those are the rules of Ramadam.

It's probably late because their school year runs later because of snow days.

The takeaway here is to just plan better for the future. The CY students are SOL but it ain't going to kill them. No big deal.

Correct, because it wouldn't support your point anyway. The opposite is also true.

You didn't attend your proms, nor do you remember when they were held, but you were part of the planning committee and do remember that you scheduled them at the beginning of the year?

sure.

Very real possibility, I guess.
Good catch!

And, since the links said they have a large Muslim population, it would probably behoove them to have a Muslim on that committee. I won't fault the school, because they probably just didn't think about it.

Dude. I am 60 years old! There is a lot of things I don't remember about my senior year in high school.

I didn't go to the prom because I couldn't dance and would be embarrassed.
I have seen enough school calendars to know the prom is on the calendar before the school year, though.

Observant Muslims are scheduled to break their fast at 8:23 p.m. that night, well after the scheduled prom start time of 7 p.m.
Again

ETA
Maybe I misunderstood.....Fasting ends at sundown.(Ends at sundown every day during Ramadam) that is when sundown is on that date in NY, according to the article.

Oh yeah. No malice in it. School just didnt know. Going forward, the Muslim students just need to get a seat at the table when plans are made.

Don't they typically serve dinner at the very start of these events? I believe that's how ours was, and I know every birthday ball I've ever been to was like that.

Back when I was in school we didn't have a dinner. (I DO remember we didn't plan for that....basically all we planned for was decorations, band, etc.)

Maybe the planned it that way for the Muslims? I don't know, honestly.

Since you remember more about your prom....when did your prom end, and when did it start?

We did a river cruise in Pittsburgh. We also snuck Jack onboard and commenced to that with the quickness. You probably remember more of your prom than I do, and you didn't even go.

WOW! That sounds like fun! I might have gone and just sat around for that!

Whoops! One reason I didn't go. I didn't want to be around a lot of drunk teenagers!

It was Muslim kids petitioning because . . .

That's not what the article said. It said that a couple hundred kids petitioned because some of the Muslim students couldn't attend. There was nothing I saw which indicated that the petitioners were all Muslims. My kids have Muslim friends in school here in Lafayette. They would ask to move the prom under similar circumstances. Also, for similar reasons, it wouldn't be moved. You are making this a political issue, not these kids, who want everyone in the school to be able to attend.

But go ahead and spout your propaganda. That's all y'all want to do anyway.

Who said everybody who signed the petition were Muslim?

“I think it’s kind of unfair because there’s a major population of Muslims at Brooklyn Tech,” Pikeeza Shabbir said.

Yeah. Probably not Muslim.

If you think that, then you have not read my posts, or are purposely misrepresenting them.

And I have shown several times that they could have attended and been in complete compliance with their beliefs.

Would you mind showing me one of my posts that would be considered propaganda?
