Rumors are swirling around Capitol Hill regarding a potential deal that would for the swift confirmation of Neil Gorsuch for the Supreme Court. In summary, Dems would agree not to filibuster Gorsuch in exchange for a GOP promise to keep the filibuster in place for the next opening. From Politico:

The deal Democrats would be most likely to pursue, the sources said, would be to allow confirmation of Gorsuch in exchange for a commitment from Republicans not to kill the filibuster for a subsequent vacancy during President Donald Trump’s term. The next high court opening could alter the balance of the court, and some Democrats privately argue that fight will be far more consequential than the current one.

No deal. No way. No how. Not when our future hangs in the balance. When women and LGBT people and workers need you to fight. #SCOTUS /6

i think most rational liberals/DEMs/progs understand this

you're going to have a pretty easy litmus test on the amount of crazy in a person based on how they see this deal (on both sides)

It baffles me that Democrats have chosen this hill to die on. Anyone who has watched any length of the hearings would be dishonest if they did not at least admit that Gorsuch is completely and utterly qualified. His knowledge of the law and ability to express himself both in writing and in speech is almost unbelievable.

You can dislike his judicial philosophy all day long, but that's not a reason to vote against the man.

F that - R's better not cave to this garbage. There's no reason other than petty politics why Gorsuch should not be confirmed.

if only teh GOP had just allowed hearings on Garland

we all know he'd never have gotten the nomination (without filibuster, even), and that would have been a much better precedent

This is a con. There is zero need to deal. The repubs hold all the cards. Why promise to not nuke the next nominee? Does anyone think the dems would do that? The *Huff...Puff* "I'm outraged that you would give us this weapon to use against you" is fake. If the repubs go for it, it just shows they are on the dems side.

I have watched a good bit of the confirmation hearings and I dont think Gorsuch has made any statements that are out of the main stream. Dems would be foolish to not confirm him. They would also be foolish to Filibuster any appointments to the Court unless their are huge problems with the nominee. The Dems have their smallest minority since the fricking 20s they better be careful.

Republicans should agree to this and go nuclear anyway with the next confirmation.

I've been home sick for two days. I think I've watched about 16 hours in total. Dems should realize that Gorsuch is basically their dream nomination, within the confines of a Trump presidency with Republican majorities. If they try to block Gorsuch, I don't think they will like who Trump comes with next time. If Republicans know they are going to have to fight in the trenches no matter the nominee, you can bet that they will be a bit more flagrant with the political leanings of the next one.

Unless Mitch says "frick it, I lied, we're going to do it anyway".
