Samsung and LG are thinking of moving their plants in Mexico to the U.S.

This week we also heard from other Taiwanese businesses considering plant openings in the U.S. instead of Vietnam.
quote:
Case in point, a new Asian report on Friday pointed out that "Taiwanese companies across the petrochemical, textile and footwear industries are assessing whether they need to move some production to the U.S.
quote:
Sandy Wang, a senior executive at Formosa Plastics Group, said Taiwan's largest industrial company is evaluating whether it would be worthwhile to invest more in the world's biggest economy.
"We have already created 6,000 job opportunities in the U.S., and we would consider investing more in the U.S. if the environment for investment is welcoming."
quote:
Eclat is a supplier to Nike, Under Armour, Costco, JCPenney and other global retailing brands. "If the Trump administration does raise tariffs, it's inevitable for almost every textile maker including us to think about it and to conduct a thorough evaluation whether the company should move some plants to the U.S.," Lo said.

So long as he stands his ground, they will come here. We are a large market.

Trump is not a serious candidate. We need someone with a steady hand like a Jeb Bush or a John Kasich in there.

Not a criticism. Serious question.
How will raising tariffs affect prices that get passed on to consumers?
Will raising tariffs start trade wars for American goods?
Will American companies lose global markets if tariffs are raised?
Will the cost of everything go up and outpace the rise of incomes?
These are the arguments against tariffs and when they were tried in the past they were disastrous overall. How are things different now? Is the American population and economy large enough to absorb a loss in global trade?
I am not criticizing. I'm glad that Trump is encouraging manufacturing to move here. I'm just worried about the threat of tariffs and what that will do overall to the consumer.
Can anyone give a serious answer without it being a flame?

Maybe now some of these snowflakes with $120k degrees in gender studies and African American history can get a real job and pay off some of these student loans they have been bitching about

Samsung and LG would be great. Formosa is already in Baton rouge along with shin Tech so Samsung and LG could easily get all the raw materials they would need to make any of their products.
